Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Well, so much for a productive, creative evening!

Ever have one of those days when you should never have started a project and it just got worse? Well, the quills did wash and dry ok, but nothing else went right. I got 1 useable pen out of 6 quills! I'M BETTER THAN THAT!!!

I think my sand was too hot when I tempered them and they got brittle.

Sorry about momma hen vivkie.

Sorry no more responses very tired and frustrated! Time for a very stiff night cap and bed!!! Night All!

Sclark, coop is beautiful! One question though, do you think the chooks are going to try and roost on the pole supporting the feeder?

That story out of Shawano is disgusting.

Today promises to be REALLY slow...................... wish I had a book to read while at work.

I do not have Bantam AM's, just LF. I have no idea what the disposition is on the Bantam variety. I am showing the LF shortly and I worry about how high strung they are. Days in a cage is going to be pretty hard on them. I know that they are one breed I have that is not good for kids. All my other breeds are easy handled.

Perhaps you could get some of those bantams Orpingtons..they are sweet as pie! The eggs are almost the same size as LF med eggs of the ones I have seen. Cochins are a good choice too. Pretty as can be.

I forgot to mention bantam orps! My little chocolate hen is such a nice little bird. She would be perfect for kids to show.

On a more somber note, it was very quiet in the coop this morning. Only sound was the chittering of the two little ones. When I let the girls out, Noodle went searching for mom. She didn't search very long tho and was soon preoccupied with the thrill that Soup had discovered the herb garden gate was open again!

Now, off to chores then to abandon hubby with the puppy while I go see if I can win him a new grill :fl

WTH was that all about ? cream cheese recipe ? I never saw such a thing on here.. I think she is barking up the wrong tree,, or did I miss something ?

I am heading to town if the people do not call or show up to pick up the bed.. I waited for 2 hours yesterday,, then they called and said his truck wouldn't start.. OK , fine,, just keep me posted, I do not want to waste my whole day today..

I have not had a cuppa, so I am a bit testy , yet..

I did figure out how to speed up my photo sending.. I can reduce then down to 25% , but IDK how they appear at the other end, or if they can enlarge them ..

TerriO, what do we buy for Dora ?

Oh my...my csa had these chickens at their farm and I am in awe. I had to ask and they said they were French poulet chickens....these were like RIR on steroids...huge. I was shocked.
No one answered my prior question too about if bantams would be easier for younger kids to show in 4h or not....any bantam suggestions.... Just trying to get ideas for next spring.
Hey Kris--I think you need to go to the fair and see what the other kids are showing. I see mostly banties at our fair that the kids use for showmanship. But that is just for handling. Any bird will be fine for a kid to handle IF HE HANDLES IT! Even a banty will be crazy for a kid if it isnt handles regularly. My suggestion would be to get whatever kinds trip your kids' trigger and go for it. If they dont like to handle the birds enter them in vet sciences and get them small animals--you dont have to take them out. Everything is face to face judging now; it is all on what the kid knows and how well they handle the project.

Cind--do you think that you need fresh feathers to make quills? Like off of a butchered bird? I am wondering if that is why they got brittle. THe ones from the peahen (in the rubber band) are not shed feathers. They are what came off when I grabbed her by her tail catching her. Did you try those? I am glad they arrived!

So DH (being the curious one) went to the pancake lady's website and she confesses right on it that she "stole" the recipe from Suzanne Sommers' low carb cookbook in the 90s! I never saw any recipe like that on here either...I thought it was in the huge group of posts I didnt read from last week. How would she even know that it was here for Pete"s sake! BEsides, she has SHARE buttons right on her site for Twitter and Facebook...I guess she was mad cause she forgot to put a Cheesehead button on there!
Maybe we Cheeseheads are getting famous?

I looked up that chicken French Poulet Rouge...looks just like my little NN I posted here yesterday! Did the ones at the CSA have Naked Necks Kristi? The site says the bird was developed for more "chickeny flavor." LOL! It was kind of interesting...

Frenchie--not a pig! Not nearly so exciting. I just went out and took a couple of bad pics...I have to get to work. See what I do for you guys?
"Getting Ready To Head Out"

"Gene is not sure if he really wants to face the great outdoors again"

"well, OK...maybe..."

So this is my new pet! Actually more of a replacement pet cause Rita seemed so sad that she didnt have anyone to hang with...yeah that whole Noah thing again! I reinforced the pen so I am praying for no more escapes....I will observe today though. This guy was found roaming the streets of Madison and after the finder searched for an owner for 2 weeks she found me! Or I found her...
Have a great day everyone....we have a party to go to tonight...DD27s friend that was recently married...and she has a new baby! I cant wait!

hey !! the house was foreclosed , which means the bank owns it.. maybe it was not the guy's fault .. he was not allowed back in there,, and we don't know if he did or did not tell the bank that the animals were there.. maybe the animals were in fine shape while the guy lived there.. July was a long time ago..

......jimtakingabreakthennotthan..........
If the house was foreclosed it was likely his fault. If feeding all those animals prevented him from making his house payments it was totally his fault. If he took out a loan he couldn't follow through on it was his fault. If he didn't attempt to refinance it was no one's fault but his. If he didn't alert anyone to the animals living inside it was absolutely his fault. IF he told the bank and did not follow up on the welfare of the animals HE placed in the house there is no doubt it was his fault. Do you know of any banker who now owns a foreclosure who would just ignore the fact that there are animals remaining in the house? Banks are run by local people who are usually human beings who have feelings - if not they certainly have concern for the condition of the house if they are to resell it. Easy to blame a big, bad bank for the stupid things people do to themselves and others. IMHO
