Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

BC, all I wanted for calls was 3-4, NOT 7! I am thinking I should probably get rid of a few; the mallards and the buff. I like the idea of having 3 calls in our little yard.....

Stuck at home again with the same sick kid. Poor baby cannot keep anything down.

Another place that I like is for sale, this one has a barn, a big machine shed with heated workshop, a greenhouse, and 35 acres. The house has one of those huge wrap around porches on it too. Need to win the lottery to buy that one though, even with both of us working I don't think we could handle a house payment over $1600 a month!

So depressing......

Well everyone enjoy the day! Nice day to get those Christmas lights up!

BL4 I hate that tummy bug! it always hits us hard.

ok I looked at ALL my notes and found out that, yes we are supposed to have 37 birds. I forgot about selling 3 hens in Aug. luckily I posted something on it, in my post i even said what breeds I sold. LOL
as for the lost chicken, I called the town and hopfully they have a live trap we can borrow. we also seen a white stray cat running around. I've seen it with in a 1/2 mile around our property but never on our property, until last night! my hubby drove in and it was walking in the driveway. He chased it with his car right into the ditch (the cat went in, not him! LOL) hopefully that will deter it

BC 50ft is nothing, our ducks are everywhere during the day. way more than 50ft. and they come back every night...... to my porch.

lau.gif

that reminds me, as you have heard (but maybe forgot) I have a problem with my ducks going to their coop every night. and most every night we CARRY them to their coop.
th.gif
do you think that MAYBE they think their coop is to far away from us? they love the porch, but is it that they love people and want to be by us?? so if we move their coop to say within 20-30 ft from the house they might go to it?? I dont want them out in the weather during winter. little boogers! oh and another Question..... I noticed our ducks ('scovies) bills are REALLY red (not just the mask thing) the bill it's self. Why? is it the same as with a hen? real red lays eggs?!

Well, I'm officicially Poultry Project Leader for the Lyndon Pioneers...eventually we'll ("we" being my mom and I - I still don't drive, I get REALLY carsick and can't concentrate, so she's the wheels) probably take over at the county level too - the leader right now is having some MAJOR health problems and hasn't held a proper meeting in about a year. People are starting to get fed up, because no one knows what they're doing. One mother complained to us last night that they did everything the had to do to get their bird entered in the fair this past summer and it was DQ'd, because they had NO IDEA there was such a thing as a Standard of Perfection that actually lists faults and disqualifications.

I told her that and her eyes went

Theoretically - nature might give you all of one or the other.

By the way, I have a couple pairs of mutt ducks for FREE if anyone wants them. I'll have to get some pictures. The girls are left over from my "Crazy Broody Khaki Campbell"'s hatch, and the boys are from my very first hatch this year. Boys are completely unrelated to the girls. They're all some sort of Campbell/Hookbill/Indian Runner mix, so they'd make a nice little egg-type flock.

AND...all my Columbian Cochins are laying LOTS of eggs. I have one little boy I hatched a month or so ago, and 10 more eggs cooking in the 'bator (I HAD to do a fertility test, you see, because I've been selling the extra eggs on ebay
smile.png
). If any of you want the chicks when they hatch, let me know!

I was supposed to have my Columbian Cochins from cochinman2005 arriving tomorrow, but Veterans Day interfered with that.
sad.png
So, they're coming next week. Along with a second pair of Columbians from the same bloodline that I bought on ovabid.com last week. I was having a bad day, and for some reason, when I'm having a bad day, I start browsing bird auction websites. Remember the pair of White Runners I acquired the same way a few months ago?

BL4- Oh I know. I was only going to have like 10 or 15 chickens and I'm up to 21 and looking for more. But if I only take a couple from you and a couple from Annarie than I should be ok. Raimnel- Well at least they will come back to the barn. I'm going to set up an area just for them with a house, inside the barn, and hopefully they will just go back to the barn. The front porch would be ok too. We have a pond infront of our house too and that porch isn't ever used. So they could have it. Oh and I think yours do that just so they can be closer to you.

Ah the love of a duck.

Annarie-That's what I thought. So who knows maybe next spring I will have some chicks of both. Congrats and good luck with the leader position. Well out to do chores. Enjoy the great weather everyone. Wanted to go riding but couldn't get a truck so now I'm going to finish putting out the Xmas lights. TT4N

They are almost the size of mom.. and were born in sept.. I am thinking early.. or aug...
I got them for 2.50 apiece.. and would ask 2.00 if some one wanted a pair...

the breeder said they thought mom was a rooster when she was younger and that dad was a hen.. their combs
were so different.. meaning one had a fuller comb and the other didn't...
Here is a pic of mom w/ da babies..

stupid insurance! lost a piece of my DD2's inhaler tube called the dr for a new one and the pharmacy called a little later saying that our insurance wont cover it!? it would be $54 out of pocket!
ep.gif
need less to say we (mom and I) turned the house upside down looking for that piece. mom found it BEHIND the towels in the bathroom. Last time I ask the 2 year old to put it away!
big_smile.png
well it didn't help that after she put it "away" I put away the towels.

bday party to get ready for this weekend too ta loo!

Just a quick update. Starting to eat like a horse now. Mornings are still rough but mid-afternoons I am hounding food. Seems to me I finally feel pregnant rather than almost dead! lol.

Hubby had a job interview today, sounds promising. Fingers crossed! Big snow removal company, pays 20 starting, and they have contracts like the airport and such. Would be fantastic for him to get that. Otherwise he had another prospective employer call him today too, so he needs to call back and set up an interview time. I am hoping this is the light at the end of the tunnel!

Going scrub shopping in about an hour, gotta get me some scrubbies for the clinicals next week. I can wear pretty much anything but jeans, but I don't have a lot as far as pants other than jeans. Figure i'll go with scrubs, you can't go wrong there! Then i'll have "work clothes" and "play clothes"

. Finals next week, and me and the girls (and guy!) are going to go out for dinner to celebrate our achievements. They all said they'd have a margarita for me. How nice, wonder who the DD will be?
wink.png

Congrats on your achievement Annarie!

Good Evening All... Best Wishes for everyone, I hope we all are in this together...

Kinda busy here with the down time hunting. I miss Cedar Post too! It's been busy and need to catch up with things other than the tree stand that makes me complete, someway.
Raked another tarp of dry maple leaves for the big coop....sweet fun for the girls....free bedding for me. Once they get them shreaded, it's dustin fun for all....

Hello Everyone! My husband and I got 8 newborn Cochin chicks about 8 weeks ago. These are our first chickens and we are having a ton of fun with them. Being new a new chicken mama, I am not sure how warm I need to keep them this winter. I have read that the Cochins are able to handle the cold pretty well, but it gets cooooold here. What has everyone else done when it comes to our cold winters? I know we need to keep the water from freezing and keep good ventilation, but do we need more heating lamps? Thanks!
