Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Ended up with 15 quarts! I would have had 17 but two jars had the bottom break out; such is life. I suppose you can freeze it instead of canning, I just do not have the freezer space available since I have all that fruit and meat in the freezer already.

Welcome Lefty!

Cuties, is there anything you want us to bring along for lunch tomorrow?

Off to see Catching Fire tonight with the youngest DD; it has been a long wait for the next installment!

good afternoon, I just came back from down town.. not the place to be today,, I stopped in at Fleet/farm.. hardly a parking space to be had,, 20 people standing in line for deer licenses ,, all the checkout counters had lines. Toy Land is open, ys know ....

I had a call from the Guinea Lady.. She has to give up all of her chickens and buinneas because of health issues.. .Kind of feeling down in the dumps about it..
she has about 18 guineas, most of them from this summer's hatch,, she will let them go for $6.oo/each,, She is going to have her roosters butchered, and she also has an assortment of pet hens that all have to go..

I bought my 5/8 " shafts today,, and a brand new 5/8" drill bit and an adhesive backed sanding disc.. Just have to make a circle jig and then I am going to start building that feather plucker..

I got up way to early this morning,, I feel like a nap coming on..

I am not much of a kraut eater, but spare ribs and kraut I do like.. Annie tops off the kraut with some kind of dumplings that covers the whole top of the kraut/rib mixture.. no potatoes needed, then..

.......jiminwisc.....

Cuties, I'm bringing a desert. Chocolate Pumpkin Crumb bars/cake, I have never made it before so I made 2 batches so we can try first so in case it's not tastey I can make up for it on the way over.

Oh and it looks like just me and my 14 yr old Tyler are just coming.

It is official; the people in this town do not want anyone to have chickens.

I finally saw the results of the survey taken last summer; 60% of the responses stated they do not want the poultry ordinance changed, and 48% STRONGLY OPPOSE to the raising of chickens in town.

I wonder how annoyed these people are going to be when they figure out that the people living right next to the city park (and right along the kids playground) have a small backyard flock.

The joke is on them I guess!

It is not burnt, the bottom has caramelized...

Evening All.... nice pics of the young ones. I'm glad you are enjoying them. I prefer them when they are real kids and can ask questions that make you laugh.

Yep, I freeze my kraut in quart bags too. I just hate that when the jars break....all the work and all the waste....but it is indeed part of canning. It happens here sometimes. Always need to be careful when lifting the hot ones out.

I like pork steak and kraut and bear and kraut and brats and kraut and kraut salad.

Kinda cool making the paper cs. way to go!

Welcome lefty...I have a rooster named lefty...it's his only good eye. He's a nice boy though. I don't know if Cind remembers, but she talked me into not culling him...thanks Cind. That was years ago.

Tough to hear about the guinea lady Jim. Dang health problems everywhere.

Good Luck Hunters...may you stay warm and shoot straight.I know my freezer has some room and hope to fill the void tomorrow or next week sometime.

Stay Safe...bigz

, chilly outside today even in the sun!

DD is having a slumber party here with 4 of her friends for her b-day- of course DS(8) is being a pain!

DH picked up a tag tonight, saw a few deer walk across the neighbors field and he is just fine with DH hunting on it. He may go on Sunday with a friend of ours but not sure yet.

Not much exciting going on here- same old stuff....work and more work!
Waiting to see if 2 of our Cali does kindle within the next few days

- not sure if the older buck is doing his job

.... of course this is DD's 4-H project but this buck is on his last chance.

Managed to hatch out 3 Welsummer chicks from some shipped eggs- 2 pullets and 1 cockerel. They are around 3 weeks now and doing good.

Stay warm!

CC.... she's not really better, but not getting worse

Jim.... good luck on your seed tapes!

BigZ.... sorry you missed out this year

Jim, I think you were right about that fall! I feel way worse now than when it happen! I sure hope the pain has peaked now and I start healing! To much to do to baby an injury. I have been taking aspirin everyday to help prevent clots since it seems to be an internal bruise. And of course, with all the weather changes I picked up a cough...... that's not helping!

OK, enough of my whine.

Chickens seem to be OK, Jon's friend is coming over in the morning to help set up some winter quarters for the roosters, till butcher time. Those poor hens are going nuts with all those roos!

Guess that's it.... night all!
Cind, I'm so sorry to hear you're feeling worse. Not suprising, but I hope this is the worst of it and you start feeling better soon. I hope kitty starts feeling better soon too. Poor baby, and mom too.

I need some winter quarters for all these roosters too. At least some of my older girls have been attacking the guys when they try to mount the younger ones.

Lefty! I hope you like it here. Good job on learning all you can before diving in. That is always a wise decision.

Bigz, stay safe and warm out there. I worry, ya know.

Nothing new around here. I did get 3 jars of ACV started today. I hope that works out. I've never tried it before, but I used Del's recipe so it should be fine. Not looking forward to the temp drop tomorrow. Stay warm, all!
