Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

me again.. still did not go outside.. soon i will ,,

you can run one tube into another and link tubes with Y's until you end up at a gathering container..
You have to start at the high end of the trees and work down lower .. the system depends upon gravity.. I like JJ's approach .. it is way less expensive..

did you know that when you tap a maple tree, that if it is ever cut into lumber, there will be black streaks in line with where the taps have been ? just a FYI ..

now I am going outside to water the birds.. can't put it off any longer..

Thanks for the tapping info.

Watched the Rose Bowl parade and now the NFL winter classic.

We went out and cleared the snow off of the vehicles and from in between them too and then took the recycling bin to the curb. It's DD11 time to do it, but with all of the snow, she'd never be able to drag it to the curb as we have a really long drive way. Also, I gave the hens oatmeal with raisins and milk. They and the rabbits love it!

Not much else going on here. Keep warm everyone!

Happy New Year! We have 7 inches and building. We are supposed to get 4 more today and lake effect snow tomorrow (of unknown amounts).

We are planning to take the kids sledding today as they have only been able to go once this season. DH is planning to make an English roast for dinner, but there is no eggnog in any store around us

I've got to go out, shovel a path to the coop, open it up, and gather the eggs.
Tomorrow, we are heading to Chinatown! Oh yum.
We have snow piles here already too..second trip of snow removal and it still is piling up. Looks like it might stop sometime tomorrow night. The birds are staying inside today..

12 eggs
2 cups sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 qt milk
1 qt 1/2 and 1/2
2 tbs madagascar vanilla
1 tsp nutmeg
1 cup heavy cream

use a large heavy sauce pan and mix the sugar, salt and eggs with a wisk..slowly add the qt of milk. Cook on low for a half hour (do not boil) maybe 160 degrees. Keep stiring so your eggs do not seperate. If they do just put it in a blender. Make an ice bath in your sink and set your pan inside the ice..add the qt of cream while stiring. Add vanilla and 1/2 the nutmeg. Keep on ice till cold.
Beat the heavy cream till you just get peaks. Serve on top of cups of egg nog. Sprinkle with nutmeg.
Delicious!! and the best you will ever taste
add rum to your liking.

Happy New Years

everyone! We still have flurries coming down, DH is getting the equipment ready to go do snow removal shortly.

Yep we are in the middle of our annual New Years Day hatch-set 50 eggs- went to bed last night(way before mid-night-DH is fighting a chest cold so extra sleep is very good) and had 1 egg pipped, got up this morning and had about 13 eggs pipped and 1 almost out. Now we have 4 Andalusian chicks out! Update 5 chicks out

Momg, I found blank seed tapes in a seed catalog I have.. Pinetree Garden Seeds..
you can go online and search Item H103 .. do not space it like (H 103)

100 foot roll for $8.95I

I found a roll on Amazon for $5.85 but it didn't give the length of roll.. I assume it is also 100 ft.

they also have the hand seeder in this catalog.. H101 for $2.98..

We are at 6* here
wee.gif
of course it won't last for long! Flaking here again.

up to 10 chicks out with another 4 eggs working on getting out- it might be easier for those trying to get out if the others that are already out don't sit on them

Badgers Loss to all.... We were in it for most of the game. Another great job breeding and hatching H&R...I think you win the first of the year with a hatch on the cheeseheads....way to go, and good luck for a 4-H winner!

Jennies truck fired up today...gotta love those engine heaters, even with a old battery.

Busy doing reports for the end of year stuff for Camp and the chicken dinner we had....I'm always happy when the piles of paper are a done deal....glad I'm not part of the audit....compiling the numbers is enough for me.

Those in the stock market this last year are happy campers for sure...hope it continues in 2014.

Glad some others are getting the snow for a change. We have enough til spring here for me.

Stay Safe..bigz

Hey guess what... I am alive.. sort of!

Its been cold, snowy, and cold. I have four chicks that were hatched out by KristiP's broody hens, all are marans and I am guessing that two are roos...
We have Hurley's turkey Maisie and 3 guineas as well as our marans and Kristi's silkies.
Oh and a rabbit, he likes being a "free" bunny, hanging with the chickens.

I will need to find one of the roo chicks a home at least by spring if not sooner.
All are "Proper" marans, meaning they all have leg feathers.
So the one we want to find a home for is a cuckoo maran with great coloring and great feathering!

I am still sporadic with the internet, but have made a New Year's resolution to be on here more than you can stand me!
LOL

Kids have school tomorrow so have to get them in bed somewhat earlier tonight so they are ready to go.

Have a good night...I'm going to bed early too!

Happy New Year everyone!

It is starting out on an upnote: it actually hit double digits down here today (12*).
wee.gif
As DrH would say, time to bust out the 'kinis.

We got some snow too, but nearly as bad as Del & cs. Only about 2" here.

The chickens must have felt the heat wave tonight (it is still above zero right now!). There are only 2 birds even remotely near the heat lamp.

Other than that, nothing new around here. The cold is clearing up. How is yours, Terri? Better, I hope.

Hey Carol!

Congrats on the hatch so far, H&R & DD.

Sweet dreams, all!

Hi All!

Congrats on the Hatch!

CC.... How do you get off with so little snow and double digit temps? Not as lucky here.

Nothing new here, just more snow.... Night All!
