Sorry to hear of you ill chook..When I went out to lock up tonight,I noticed Peekachu my Lav Orp Roo wasn't acting right. When I threw out some scratch, he acted like he was eating it but only put his head down to watch the hens. I went over and he let me pick him up and kept his head hanging down. I put him up on the roost for the night and he just hung his head on my arm. He doesnt have anything in his crop and seemed weak or dizzy. He seems perfectly alert and doesnt sound congested. After sitting and half holding him for the past 30 mins, the only thing that might be unusual is he seems to be taking soft deep breaths, Kind of like when someone is sleeping. There is no raspiness, panting, or anything. This is the weirdest thing, but the way he is acting I dont think he will make it through the night. I have the webcam on him and whenever I check, he is laying down and has his head hanging of the roost. I havent noticed anything unusual lately, although I only see them for a few mins in the morning and when I lock up at night lately. None of the others seem sick.Any ideas?
Sounds like possibly mold resperitory issues..if you have oxine..I would bring him in the house or in the garage and mist his face a few times a day to see if that helps.e
I had that mold issue too..thank goodness it was one bag..I had to treat the whole flock for poison.Aw terri, so sorry! Hugs to you on your now belated birthday. Good looking stake.
Judy, I have occasionally had birds act that way. They have then died. Sorry I don't have more to add. We had them all tested. And everything was normal. Hope your guy pulls through. I think it is kinda lime del says. Survival of the fittest.
We (hubby) picked up 3 bags of feed today at fleet. They are full of MOLD! I wonder how often this happens. The first one wasn't very noticable. But the next one was really bad. And when we looked back to the first, it was clearly there. We had sick birds one other time. And talked with a nice lady who is very experienced with chickens. She told us to throw out all of our feed. Because
it sounded like they had mold poisoning. This is getting old.
Do any of you use fleet feed? We are thinking of switching to feed mills. Can you guys share your experiences with me?
I use fresh feed from the mil now..it is more expensive than bagged feed, but worth the piece of mind......wish I could find it for $9.00 for 50lbs...maybe a trip up north..soon
x2Nice Afternoon To Everyone....god job with the tylan angibubs...I would bring him inside with a heat lamp and continue the tylan for a couple days to watch for improvement and to avoid him from getting chilled. Good Luck!
Tuff B-Day TO not making the Florida Sun...hope you get there at some point...better late than never.
Glad you saved the puppy Irish...mean folks that dump animals have no heart....![]()
I'm a total fan of the feed mills cuties....it's the only feed I buy. The Embarrass feed mill sells a fresh ground 18% layer mash for 1/3 less than the old pallet stored inferior feed that fleet sells. Right now it's $9 per 50lbs. I would check out your local mill and at least see what they have to offer. I talked to Mark Peterson in regards to what he is feeding...and it's layer from his local mill there.....fresh feed is important to me anyways.....good luck!
Nothing new here, except the 9ers really suck.
Be Safe...bigz
where do you live? can I have the feed mils phone number?please
