Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

When I went out to lock up tonight,I noticed Peekachu my Lav Orp Roo wasn't acting right. When I threw out some scratch, he acted like he was eating it but only put his head down to watch the hens. I went over and he let me pick him up and kept his head hanging down. I put him up on the roost for the night and he just hung his head on my arm. He doesnt have anything in his crop and seemed weak or dizzy. He seems perfectly alert and doesnt sound congested. After sitting and half holding him for the past 30 mins, the only thing that might be unusual is he seems to be taking soft deep breaths, Kind of like when someone is sleeping. There is no raspiness, panting, or anything. This is the weirdest thing, but the way he is acting I dont think he will make it through the night. I have the webcam on him and whenever I check, he is laying down and has his head hanging of the roost. I havent noticed anything unusual lately, although I only see them for a few mins in the morning and when I lock up at night lately. None of the others seem sick.Any ideas?
Sorry to hear of you ill chook..
Sounds like possibly mold resperitory issues..if you have oxine..I would bring him in the house or in the garage and mist his face a few times a day to see if that helps.e

Aw terri, so sorry! Hugs to you on your now belated birthday. Good looking stake.
Judy, I have occasionally had birds act that way. They have then died. Sorry I don't have more to add. We had them all tested. And everything was normal. Hope your guy pulls through. I think it is kinda lime del says. Survival of the fittest.
We (hubby) picked up 3 bags of feed today at fleet. They are full of MOLD! I wonder how often this happens. The first one wasn't very noticable. But the next one was really bad. And when we looked back to the first, it was clearly there. We had sick birds one other time. And talked with a nice lady who is very experienced with chickens. She told us to throw out all of our feed. Because
it sounded like they had mold poisoning. This is getting old.

Do any of you use fleet feed? We are thinking of switching to feed mills. Can you guys share your experiences with me?
I had that mold issue too..thank goodness it was one bag..I had to treat the whole flock for poison.
I use fresh feed from the mil now..it is more expensive than bagged feed, but worth the piece of mind......wish I could find it for $9.00 for 50lbs...maybe a trip up north..soon

Nice Afternoon To Everyone....god job with the tylan angibubs...I would bring him inside with a heat lamp and continue the tylan for a couple days to watch for improvement and to avoid him from getting chilled. Good Luck!

Tuff B-Day TO not making the Florida Sun...hope you get there at some point...better late than never.

Glad you saved the puppy Irish...mean folks that dump animals have no heart....

I'm a total fan of the feed mills cuties....it's the only feed I buy. The Embarrass feed mill sells a fresh ground 18% layer mash for 1/3 less than the old pallet stored inferior feed that fleet sells. Right now it's $9 per 50lbs. I would check out your local mill and at least see what they have to offer. I talked to Mark Peterson in regards to what he is feeding...and it's layer from his local mill there.....fresh feed is important to me anyways.....good luck!

Nothing new here, except the 9ers really suck.

Be Safe...bigz

where do you live? can I have the feed mils phone number?please

Haha must uave been that auto spell again ;-)

I will scavenge the feed mills this week. Thanks for the info.

I am sad. We drove 2 hours for the harness and cart and such. Upon arrival they were very rushed. And had somewhere to be. We payed up and grabbed the stuff and headed out. Just goes to show; you can not be trusting. Today while inspecting, we realise the cart is bemt to shi! And will not peice together. And one of the welds t hold the wheel on is busted and missing. Also parts of the harness are missing :'( she offered to mail some of the parts for the harness. But claims not to have the others. And refund for the cart if we drive it back. 4 hours in the truck is enough gas to pay. I do not think another 4 would do us any good.of coarse hubby is flying off the handle. I am angry with myself. She told me it was all in good working condition. This is a hard lesson.
I lime your pic bbl4. I keep the squirt bottle handy when ours are out. The kittens show some interest.

x2 on all the above. Well said, Bigz.

I would bring him inside also, Ang. The only thing I might change would be the Tylan. The only reason I say that is because I had a hen inside around X-mas because she was acting lethargic, seemed a bit off balanced but was alert & bright eyed. I took a guess and attributed it to being dehydrated from having watery stools. Instead of going the antibiotic route, which I considered thinking the diarrhea could be due to illness, I decided to try the vitamins/electros first. In a couple days, I saw vast improvement. She still had watery poops, but I think it might have been partially due to the volume of water she had been consuming. I had to refill her waterer multiple times a day. It was crazy. But she is all better now.

I remember you saying you had a few hens with poopsicles on their back ends. He very well may be suffering from dehydration. It can make them very weak. I would bring him in & get some electros into him soon. And try to get him to eat something.

Mel, the gig went well & they had a good turnout. Vicki & her DH came which was so awesome. It was so good to see them again. I hope they had a good time. Thanks again for coming, Vicki! Steve was very happy to see you both & wished he could have visited longer.

Bigz mill is somewhere up by Clintonville, I believe.

Cute kiddos, cuties!

delish, I live right down the road from where the bash is held. The feed mill is prolly 5 miles from Camp...maybe a thought to secure some if you plan on attending this year would be more cost effective, due to the price of gas. While they aren't open on the weekends, a early Friday arrival to the bash, or I can help with a pick-up for you, or show Joe the way with help, Anyway it's....
Magee Feeds
211 S Grand Ave
Clintonville, Wi (actually embarrass)

Speaking of the bash....the date is in stone and I should prolly start a chickenstock thread.... Maybe we can make this the best one ever....it is a must event for all...the children that come have as gooda time as the parents...the secure location allows them to run free and be carefree...it's all about family and friends...and it's affordable for those with tight budgets....I promise. Food , Fun, and folks that talk chickens without a fowl look anywhere. I hope all the old friends can make it, and new ones can be made.

Peace..bigz

How does one "lime" a pic?? LOL

I sent you a PM I have stuff that can be used for your pony, harness and such.

Well I haven't been on much due to the fact we are having issues with the mobile hotspot and found out we need a booster antenna... GRRR
everyone is fine here despite the ice/rain and such.

Angiebubs, I would check his elctrolytes as well. I have Kristi's silkies at the barn for winter and her roo acted as if he was gonna die, I ensured he got water, and kept him warm and got some pedialyte into him and now he is right as rain. It was a little dicey there for a few days, we really thought he was going to die for about 2 days.. and now he is crowing his head off and right as rain.

Oh and TO... I need to get my turkey hen over to you in a few months so we can get her with your toms!!

Hi all!
I agree BigZ--get that thread started unless you want me to do it. (just shoot me a PM)
Carol--the Toms are starting to get interested in the hens so soon would be good! I have 4 Toms and 2 hens right now so an additional one would be great!
I dont know if I told about the last puppy of Pearl's...lost him on my birthday! He disappeared int he basement and coulnd be found by anyone, then he reappeared ad was dehydrated so I worked on him for a few hours and put him back with Mom...he was out of the nest and in the middle of the floor the next morning! I am sad...I actually considered adopting the little guy. Pearl the Mom is now up here with the other dogs and is doing quite

well, even with the terrier! A few fights but nothing terrible.
As you can see she is not fond of the camera! She doesnt seem to miss the pup at all and is VERY happy to be up in the house proper. By her reactions to things we can tell that she hasnt been inside before. She is very good about asking to go out however!

I guess I will head on up now...I hope your bird is better Angie BUNS! (I love when Mel says "lime" too) That autocorrect is funny stuff for sure!
Thanks for the birthday wishes! The kids took me out for lunch today too...and we had a woman and her daughter come to look at Moon for a lease situation.

It would be really nice to have one less for sure!

Good night! TerriOnowthinkingabouthtebash

I just got home from a birthday party.. it is really nice outside yet.. actually thawing.. but don't get too used to it,, this too shall pass..

Cuties, take a deep breath and step away from that pony cart.. It prolly can be fixed, once the shock wears off.. bent frames can be straightened with come-alongs and big hammers.. and if the broken weld is not cast iron, it can be welded.. harnesses are not that hard to repair.. just put a strap where one is missing and POOF , fixed ..

tomorrow I have to give my waterers a good going over.. I cracked both of them during the cold snap
I might even break down and buy new ones..

and also tomorrow I should head to the feed mill and get some of that natural feed.. I think It is about $12.5o/50# still cheaper than the granuals I have been buying..

I got a PM from BYC congradulating me on my 5 year membership.. boy where did that time go "??

BUMMER about the horse gear! Did you get it from CL or some other classified ad? You could always threaten them with small claims court if they don't come and get it and refund you fully.
