Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good late morning, I let the birds loose,, gave them a little water.. I will have to go out later and fill the feeder.. getting only 5 eggs per day.. might have to whack those red stars.. I think they are beyond laying.. I think the guy I bought them from lied to me.. I can put them on c l as stewing chickens.. $3.oo / each.. somebody will buy them..

If it wasn't so cold out, I would butcher them myself ..

can't think of anything to write about.. maybe something exciting will happen today ..

I purchased my red stars from tractor supply in the spring of 2012 and they pretty much stopped laying around October 2013. They are part of a group of 15 hens that give me 1 egg a day. I'm with you... time to go!

Quote: I bought mine from a guy who said they had only one season of laying,, I figured if they would lay for the rest of the winter, I would have been satisfied with that.. not happening ,, goodbye chickens..

a couple of them died in the cold snap,, IDK how many are left out there.. maybe 10 or so..

I got them cheap enough, I am not happy I stuck so much feed into them ..

I do have pictures to post, but I will get to them later. I am happy to be home!

They had a record number of people at the ice caves on Saturday, over 8,500. I was surprised at the sheer number of people out to see these beautiful ice creations. The people of Cornucopia were overrun with vehicles waiting for shuttles, Hwy 13 was one giant parking lot of vehicles for miles in either direction...... and for the most part all of the people who were there were respectful of the formations. However, many people brought their children and just let them run wild. Kids were climbing into every crevice they could fit into, climbing all over the ice formations, breaking off ice points, sliding all over the ice on their bellies right along the ice formations, picking up chunks of ice and throwing them at the formations,........ I should not say that it was just children since I also witnessed much older individuals who knew better behaving the same way (not the belly sliding but you get my point). It was very frustrating to watch people be so disrespectful.

The entire trip was worth it, I would gladly go up to the Lake Superior shoreline again. I was even entertaining the idea of taking a trip up in the summer. The kids would get a kick out of collecting agates on the shoreline.
