Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi All!

I would just go ahead and get the chicks you want. What would you do with "practice chicks" when they go up and you decide you really want that Buckeye?

I am a natural "night person". For me to function during the day is like a "day person" going on 3rd shift.

Nice to see you pop in Judge!

Well, people shouldn't have to worry too much about things blowing away in this wind..... everything is frozen down!

Night All!

good morning, It looks foreboding out there today.. there was no snow on Ollie yesterday, today looks like at least 4 inches.. I don't want to go outside, I don't want to go outside ....

Lea has to go to work.. I hope she doesn't get stuck ..

Judge, so glad you are back..

like it or not, I have to start Ollie up and clear a path to the road.. for some reason or another everybody in this house just has to go to town..

Good thing you are saving them from getting stuck in your driveway...but then if they did I guess you would have to get them out anyhow. Better get up and get that driveway plowed sir, and save yourself some work! Now if I could only talk myself into stuff so easily!
'Good morning to all...welcome back Judge. Everyone is saying it is bad outside; doesnt look too bad here, I guess I will find out in a short time when I head out to work. First chores, then work....
Our gazebo finally gave up last night--I guess the wind was just too much for it. It looks like the top has ripped and the supports are hanging down. This summer I will turn it into an open air chicken coop! (what else?)

I just ate a cup of instant GF oatmeal that I got in a "box of goodies" that came yesterday. It was quite good actually, lots of dried apples and walnuts. It said it had white chocolate in it too....maybe. I might try to make it myself with my oats. Sure was convenient....something that normally is not associated with GF for sure!

The HW+ dog spent her first night in the kennel. SHe did surprisingly well too--no barking at all. I put one of the really cushy dog beds in there for her so she was comfy. I have decided that I will lock her in the bathroom for the daytimes and in the kennel at night. It is a pain with only having one bathroom....but what can ya do eh?

THe biggest reason I came on is to see how my avatar looks not that I have my new badge! They notified me last night...I forgot you got a 4 year one. OK--I really need to head out....I'm with you though Jim---dont wanna, dont wanna, dont wanna! TerriO

My driveway is now a lake, all the snow has come off the roof on the South side of the house...... when the dam breaks on the North side it is going to be loud; nobody will miss it if anyone is at home.

Deli, can you put me down for eggs? I would take an assortment of whatever you have, and I am willing to drive down to pick them up to avoid shipping. I'll let you know when, it will be a while so no rush. You will have to give me a price list too....

Dh has to go in to work at 4AM the next three days. Those 10 hour days do a number on him, he is getting too old for that kind of stuff.

TO, I hope Tommy feels better. He needs to make it to the Bash again!
I will work on a list..I should have done that last year..with this crappy weather..I am getting some spotty fertility in my Silver Laced and in my Gold laced..both of those two breed must need more sun yet..

Hi all. I've been gone for a long time, but trying to catch up. Things have been very busy here. We n gutted and added on to our kitchen, and are in the process of building a garage. The cabinets came in today and I am in love. Can't wait to see it finished.
The chicken and ducks are doing just ok. I am getting no eggs from the outdoor chickens, but four found there way onto the barn and have made it their permanent home. I get eggs from them every day. I know the ones outside are cold. I can't wait for spring!
Hopefully all is well with you, and I hope to check in with you all more often

Hi ya Judge!!

Quote: look t the shinny badge..

good afternoon,
It took only a few minutes to thaw the choke cable on Ollie.. I have it pretty well pinpointed where it freezes..

I got everything plowed.. didn't plan on doing a thorough job, but as long as I was out there, might as well get er done .. it wasn't too bad until I got to the end of the driveway and ran out of wind break.. total white out .. windy and cold..

A big chunk of snow fell off of the lean to roof,, I took a shovel and knocked down some more that looked precarious ..

I have a foot step-down to get into the chicken coop door.. and now with these warmer temps, the poop is thawing and getting a little mushy ..

I think I need a nap.. coming in from that cold outside does that to me..

I have noticed when I walk in the coop it is a bit soft in spots..I dread this years coop clean out..I think I need to bust out a big layer the next time we have a few nice days..
This wind had buried all of my paths..some spots are back up to my hip in my trek out the the coop..feels never ending..

One of my chicks that are not due till Monday ..was in the turner with the top off his egg..peeping away..what the heck..now he is going to be alone for days...has to be a male..huge feet..I think he was too big for the egg.

Just thought I would ask you guys, are any of you WI people planing on going to the NPIP seminar on april 10th in stevens point I just signed up for it.

My husband and I were going to, but that's just too far. If it would've been on a weekend we could've made it work, but it's on a weekday. Maybe next year- I really want to get certified and eventually become a poultry leader and superintendent for my county.

Hi Strevale! My family has been raising chickens for about 3 years now. We go to swap meets, auctions and the local feed store to buy chicks every February/March. Sometimes we can even find freebies on craigslist. We never keep all of them either. We raise them to pullets and if they don't turn out to be what we want- we sell them on craigslist. Plus, we always thin out the flock come winter since they can't free-range then. We try to keep at least 6 in the winter. Currently I have 2 standard Polish we keep because of the kids, otherwise I wouldn't even bother with them. We have 2 white leghorns that we will probably sell come fall because our customers want brown eggs, but these girls lay a large white egg every day. We also have 2 red sex-links that lay large brown eggs on a daily basis. Those are keepers for us. We have one production RI Red which lays an egg every day too. She is and has been a great egg layer, but is now 3 years old. Come fall she may be going on craigslist too. Roosters we give away to anyone who will take them. We've taken our chances with straight runs, only to have 50% turn out to be roos, which we cannot keep in the city. We just bought 2 Speckled Sussex, 2 Partridge Rock and 2 Blue Cochins. We will see how those work out for us. My son plans to show chickens at the county fair this year and these are supposed to be show quality.
