Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Went to the UW today, CS I told the profs how they were remodeling the Science building and of course they completely agree how the floors should be switched......

Nothing to report here. The snow is melting at a nice rate, but not enough for me to take the dogs out in the woods. Ginger is still unsure of us, she keeps thinking she is going to the car when we go outside.

It is sad to see but then she will come inside and play with her toys too. She has stopped her hunger strike as well. Today my dogs were trying to play with her but she is not ready for that yet......

Tomorrow is my mom's birthday, so I have a cake to make. That will keep me busy......

I totally agree and have no idea why the architects planned it that way. We are out of the yummy brownies, thanks again!
Hi again, I couldn't take anymore of Puppy's pacing and going from door to door and then to me,, So, I put on my jacket and we went outside.. He made a bee line to the new dog (Bo) .
I tried calming the two confrontiers . they just kept growling and snarling. finally I said to heII with it.. sat on the tractor and let nature take it's course.. It was awesome and educational.. they finally got nose to nose and the fight was on.. It lasted only a few seconds.. Bo squealed a couple of times and dominance was established.. No loose fur, no blood.. Now I just let Puppy out and he went right over to Bo, but not much growling going on, so I came back into the house.. lit them work it out from here on..

Stacy, I found your picture in my camera after all.. I won't post it..However, I will hold you ransom with it..

the weatherman said that this will be the coldest day until next November .. sounds good to me..

.......jiminwisc......
Jim-I hope the weatherman that you listen to is accurate as I am sick f winter and ready for spring and the warmth it brings.

Happy evening to you all! Been lurking as often as the house work and kids allow.

So very thankful for the warmer weather! I saw my first robin today ~ that always makes for a happy day. F&F is taking orders for chicks now

i'll be getting Easter eggers and Colombian Wyandotes. Straight run on both..... that was my plan anyway.
Is it just me or is there a trick to getting tender meat from my chickens. (Red Stars) i swear it felt like it was all gristle. He wasn't even a year old. I want to be able to raise chickens for both eggs and meat but every rooster had been tough.

any thoughts for me.
Sorry to hear of having to deal with jerks and of the losses and other trials.
Amy I have been watching diligently for a Robin and have yet to see one...(not even the 4 wheeled one!)

Your new Dog is adorable! I hope she is a good addition to your family.
good morning, yet, as I am starting to type this.. I told you I would be home by noon and we made it..

now, for some pictures..

I am having real trouble with my computer for the past 2 days,, I am typing along and all of a sudden everything freezes up.. this is the most I have made it go for two days.. I did freeze up once already..

.this is what I went to Medford for this morning..
.
Sclark brought him to Medford and we met at Hardees .. I had my brother take a picture of her and me, but to her delight, it is not showing up on my camera..

I tried to introduce Puppy to his new "friend" .. It did not go well.. all I can say is I am glad I had Puppy on a leash ..

It will take some time, but I am sure we can make friends of the two..

the new comer is good with the small puppies, though..

I better send this before trouble strikes again..

........jiminwisc............

OK--I need to finish up dinner preps...have a great evening all! TerriO

So we picked up 8 turkey babies on Monday for DD and DS(8) to work with for 4-H..... they have been doing pretty good but tonight when doing chores- one baby wasn't looking so good- not sure it will make it- DD is holding it and slowly feeding it some sugar water to see if we can get it back on its feet

not much new here- still have to find time to tap our maple trees, ran out of time this weekend- DH had to change the brakes on his truck so that everything was working correctly. Finished up a unit today for a new tenant and have another one to get started(this one is a top to bottom type job....

Awww thanks for the Warm Welcome! I'm located East of Madison~
Yeah, I thought $20/bird seemed high for started pullets. I think that idea is out.
The Barred rocks that the one lady had she was asking $5/each. That's a good price I think for 2.5month old birds right? I did find an ad on CL. The lady just has way too many birds and a lot of her flock was wiped out by predators last year so they raised a lot of birds and now have too many. So they are Brown Sex links (or something like that) and are 9months old and laying really well. Asking $15/bird. I had been leaning towards the Barred Rocks for $5/each but they wont be laying for another 2-3 months. So I guess id have to figure out how much its going to cost me to feed them until they start producing for me. $5 sounds better than $15 but I think the Brown ones would be more prolific layers than the Barred rocks. But that's my uneducated guess.....just according to my book they lay well, but not Excellent.

Yes, I am looking to mainly do this because I like the self-sufficiency of raising my own food and I'd like the kids to have the experience also w/helping w/chores and stuff.

I'll be sticking around and hopefully getting to "know" everyone!

Here's some actual chicken math : Nutrena has a nice chart on their website that shows a laying hen will eat 1.5 lbs per bird per week, The 2.5mo old birds are around 10 weeks, you have another 10-12 weeks before they lay... That's 15 - 18 # total feed per bird until they start laying, let's say 40# of feed is $15. Therefore feeding them until they lay (@20-22weeks) will cost $5.6 - $6.7. Taking the initial $5 cost and adding the feed cost is still cheaper than the $15 bird. You could complicate it by adding the cost of store bought eggs while you wait for your hens to start laying, but I won't.

rd200 why don't you go ahead and buy the barred rocks.. and also buy a couple of the $15 sex links.. that way you will have eggs right away, and also have fresh layers on the way up..
Or buy another breed of chicken if you are not sure about the barred rocks..
then, again, it depends on how many chickens you are allowed to have ?

Terri, my plans on the new dog was to get him away from where he was.. then try to give it some training.. then maybe keep him and one of my female puppies for future pups.. or maybe get that guy from central Minn to take him..

First we will see if he and Puppy will get along ..

Thanks for that comparison. I was trying to figure it out myself but wasn't getting that far!
