I have the lil girl in one of my coops..she sleeps and shares food with two young birds. The birds are about 4 months old so they have less fear and to young to hurt her. They eat her food and she barks at them,..they preen her fur when she is quiet so for now it is working. They like her because she has food..She does bark and cry..but not at night time. She is busy trying to catch mice..woo hoo!! They keep her occupied most of the night. She has not caught any yet.
I am way up North, by Medford WI...I am building a 10x10 coop, for now ;)
You need a bigger coop!!
You can only get a few birds in there..you need like a few dozen or so at least~~

Welcome to the group to both of you..we also have a camp out in Clintonville every year..put it on your calendars!! (click on the link in TO signature line)

Good late morning all!
1980, I just found a marans breeder :) french. I am mak ing thr trip I the next week. I am south of you. But depending on her availability, I'd be glad to pick you up a couple chicks. We are near fond du lac.
Welcome Kevin! That pup will settle right in with a little time.
Clark, that lil girl s such a cutie!
Just waiting to see if I have to work 12 hours :/ syd has fine arts at 4. And I would really like to go. But it is not looking promising :'(

Hey zeek! Do you have a bator with a turner that you want to loan out?
Happy hump day!

I used to work in Medford.. I was just there a couple of days ago.. 40 miles from my house..

Delisha, give her a break,, that 10 x 10 will make a nice porch when she adds on to it..

all of the puppies know how to roam out into the field without the big dogs along.. they are such fearless little tykes ..

I will be taking Bo for another walk in a little while.. If the snow is not too deep, I will do the perimeter walk.. show him the boundaries .

Small world, huh? Yes, I know I will want to add on..actually this will be our first year out in the country and there is A LOT to do once the snow melts, so a metal kit shed for the girls for now, it'll probably be used for a couple pigs down the road and a bigger coop will be built....I'm already seeing chicken math kick in LOL.

Thanks, but I am kinda hoping to find black copper marans, I think those are the darkest eggs? I am quite far from fondy, but I do get though there sometimes...hubby has family in Plymouth and an aunt in fondy :)

Cuties - Where is there a breeder in WI? I'm working with a breeder in MI... may initially get them from her and then investigate the WI breeder when I need to add stock to my generation breeding plan.

Welcome to our 2 newbies!! I agree a bigger coop or a second might work. Especially if you plan on breeding and swapping/selling purebred eggs, that way you have multiple coop to house your different breeds.

I made my first chicken saddles over the last 2 days.... does anyone have any opinoins what shape works best (the one like mine, verses one that has swallowtail shape or the ones with the wings). Also any suggestion on securing them? I added snaps but I can barely open them, it will be a hassle once they are on the hen and then I have to take them off.

They are black copper :) just that they are the french variety (lightly feathrlered leg. And darker egg. And frankly just better lol ;) sorry about the turner. I hope your eggs were not compromised.

The lady is west of Madison. Super nice! I can not remember the name of the town. But I can pm info when I go home tonight :) Jim, Bo is probably havung the time of his life! Perhaps the pups will follow you on the perimeter walk :D

1876, where are you located? Do you plan to sell extra saddles? I have one poor hen that everybody loves! I keep seperating her to give her a break. But when I put her back in they are nuts. Poor girl. Every other hen looks pretty good.
