Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Just about have the 2nd brooder finished. It's sitting on a smaller one from last year I plan on making the top in the same fashion, so I will have 3. I hope it will be enough for all the chicks I'm hatching. Otherwise I'll just use one of those totes from Walmart and put mesh on the top like the one I have already. Can you tell I like duct tape!

Hello Fellow Wisconsinites!
I have a question: My chicks are 5 weeks old and quite large, they appear to be fully feathered can I put them in the barn with a heat lamp? I haven't been giving any supplemental heat for a week now but they are in the house. I have a coop but wanted to wait until the are 8 weeks old to introduce them to the ladies. They all healthy and lively, one is sitting in front of my keyboard eagerly awaiting a response lol. Thank you for any information. It is above freezing in the morning and we are no longer using our heated water bowls and it is getting up in the 50's but not everyday.
I have EE, Astrolorps, Red Stars, Black Stars, and a mystery chick.

Wow you are sure a talkative bunch these days, no way was I going to read a whole weeks worth... I did start by gave up after 10 pages.

Good luck with the Bobcats... I have only seen one here outside Madison, hubby said I was nuts until the neighbor across the street saw it then all of a sudden he was a believer.

DH did clean out the coop the poor girls would not go inside at night, finally all but two made it in, so I plucked them off the outside perch sputtering and shoved them in the pop door... obviously they preferred their winter stench to the smell of fresh wood chips.

Poor pup is over the cash limit we had originally set by about $500 and looks to be more ahead, hard to say no. At this point the vet an Opthomologist says it was probably a raccoon, there was no debris in the eye and it had a small puncture and the tear along the side of the eye is about 3 inches long. He is probably blind but it is healing well so he may be able to keep it, he isn't in pain anymore so that is the best news, still if they eye does get glaucoma they will recommend removing it another $800... Kinda wish we had not been so close to "great" vets and they had removed the eye at the onset" We would love him just the same, heck grew up with more than one one eyed, or 3 legged dogs on my grandparents farms.

Love hearing about all the homemade sap... I have my Aunt up in Dorchester buy me quarts, but not anymore now that the kids are out of the house... Can not every bring myself to use that corn syrup junk... Remember my grampa using the horses and snow sled going into the woods and pouring it warm on the snow ohhhh yum.

good evening,, what a day..
first off this afternoon, I sold a puppy,,,,........and Bo.. I miss Bo already.. but he went to a good home with 6 kids who wanted him,,,,,,,,,,,,and the puppy.. I gave the woman a good deal.. they spent almost 2 hours trying to make up their minds.. 4 kids and her.. each of the kids had a puppy picked out.. finally the little girl made the final decision.. the oldest boy (18) was not going home without Bo.. I hope those kids don't rub all the fur off of those dogs ..

then I went to town and picked up my new glasses.. got home just in time to meet the guy from Bruce who was here to pick up the 3 Sebastopol geese.. He vent sexed them and determined that they are all females.. and I was worried that 2 of the 3 were males.. Now he still needs a male..
anybody got a male Sebastopol goose they want to sell ?

I think BarlRacer does.. I think I have her addy somewhere ..if I can find it..

Anicin in Cambfia has Sebs, but that is a long way from Bruce..

Del-momma hen is very content with her clutch of eggs. Since she is in the layer box, I had to root around for the non-fertile eggs to remove. These girls are so patient and do not fuss a bunch.
Well I had to turn the heat off on the sap as I need to get sleep. I guess it'll be okay to restart tomorrow?

After some rain to enlarge our muddy property all is still in snow, slush and mud. Even after keeping watch these past couple of nights for the bad kitty, she didn't come back. So far. We still go out there every other hour and the trap is stocked with chicken breast. We shall see who wins after we had those 4 last year!

Our eggs are growing in the bator. So far 7 BLH, all 6 Saxony and 2 Anconas are growing. Should get more eggs this week to hatch. Lol. Gonna try to smuggle a sebbie egg in there too, since SO don't want geese at all but I think sebbies are so beautiful and I want one! Lol.
Then waiting for our 10 Holderread ducklings to come too. Til then we're busy making up a pen plan to separate the breeds and starting to build as soon as the snow and mud allows! Yup, busy busy.

Congrats Jim on having sold a puppy and Bo. And yes, you always miss them, but you still got more, right?!

Gonna turn in for the night. Was a long day with the whiny puppy (his son's. Ours barely even bark unless there is a stranger coming) and my nerves are fried. Tomorrow another long day taking care of my disabled friend all day long. Hope it goes by fast so I can relax a bit too! So night all, til we read each other again...

Hi All!

Not much to read today I see. Jim, Glad you got a good home for Bo! They will have their hands full with 2 young very large dogs! LOL

Congrats on the hatch!

DH did open the coop door today!

Nothing more from me..... Night All

Oh, BTW....
There is a couple of e-mail things going around you should look out for (Go figure)....
Notice to Appear and gives a court case number
and
Order to Vacate
They sound scary so people open them. Don't! They put all kinds of cr@p on the computer. I've gotten I think 5 so far. I think most of us would know better, but best to get the word around anyway.

Night Again!
