Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi All!

Wow, some pretty nifty stories tonight! So sorry about about the baby FT. Sounds like it may have been a little early. Maybe next year when your a little more ready.

Had a friend check the loft. No peepers but he found a box with about 50 eggs! He couldn't get them then, he'll have to try later in the week.

That's it from me.... Night All!

It was the best Easter weekend. Hard coming back today!
What kind of roosters do you have? Pictures?

1a. no, the rooster can be any breed..
2a. you do not have to get a rooster anytime soon.. you have several months before you will be collecting eggs.
3a. more than likely a rooster will be accepted into a flock of hens..

X2 what UnkaDan said.. you might have a rooster in the mix already ..

Once the hens start laying, then is when I would get a full grown rooster..
Roosters are easy to come by ,
just mention it here and you will have plenty of offers..

Yes, a trained eye can tell the roosters from the hens at an early age.. II meant the chickens age, not the person
One has to make things very clear for certain persons on here.. I won't mention any names.
but one of their initials are CC..

I need some Pekin ducks for a lady .. anybody got some to sell ?

I also need a male Sebastopol goose for another person..
Thanks for the response,
We got our Pekin ducks from Tractor Supply by us. Not sure if you have one by you?
Can you give me a little more insight on what I'm looking for to determine the difference at a younger age?

What kind of water feeder do you use? I'm thinking about making one with using the "nipples". Do the chicks catch on to this change right away? When I do this should I still leave the water feeder that I currently have in the brooder? How do ducks do with the nipples?

good morning,

chickens take to the nipple waterer well..

ducks would too, I imagine,,
However, ducks need a dish of water.. they must be able to dip their bills in to clean their nostrils and eyes ..

ducks will always see how fast they can slobber their water out of whatever kind of container it is in..
as a result the area is always wet..
this wetness is not good for the chickens..

also, ducks do not swallow too well.. they take a couple bites of food and then a drink of water..

If you can post pictures of two of your chicks that look different from each other, we all can take a guess at which is a roo or a pullet..

Right now we have a small container that we keep putting water in for the ducks. The chicks seem to try and get it as dirty as possible it seems like.
We bought the chicks from our local feed store and they said they were all pullets. As of right now they all seem to look the same to me anyways.

This picture was taken on Sunday. My girlfriend was cleaning the ducks water container at the time so that's not pictured.

is it just the light, or are they different colors ?
leghorn chicks are supposed to be yellow..

If they said they are all pullets, and they are identical, your odds are that they are..

The chicks are about 3 weeks old now. They were yellow but are now starting to turn white, the chicks are all roughly the same color since they are all starting to change colors. The 3 yellow ones are our Pekin ducks that we picked up on Saturday, which are 5 days old now.
