Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

The monsters are finally in place and one is running. I had both of them hooked up but kept tripping the breaker. I don't need them both at this moment so just unhooked it. Now to clean the trays up and get them working. It finally is building temps, I was worried for a while as it seemed like it wasn't heating at all. I'm hoping within the next day or so I can get the now 10 dozen eggs sitting on the cupboard set as I have a big gap in my hatching times now. I have 4 chicks hatched so far(3 SS, 1 EE) and many pipped. The prod eggs are a bit slower than my SS are. They always seem to hatch first and are lively as all get out. I have a state tester coming tomorrow after I get home from a visitation in Chippewa and Eau Claire at 3pm. I'm getting State Flock Certified, I'm so sick of trying to find someone to test, always an excuse. It's costing me $130 for the test but it will be a load off so I can take my chicks to the swaps without a hassle. I just did a count and have 41 Prod, 14 SS, 5 EE and 4 BLRW in lockdown and hope they are done hatching by Sat am for the Neillsville swap.

When the kids were in school it think I put money in there account using Mylunchmoney.com. (Kids are not 23 and 25 seems like yesterday though) That site always let me know when the balance got under $10.00... I remember when the kids were little they would have take you parent to lunch day... OMG I can not believe how the lunch program has deteriorated since I was a kid and you had the lunch ladies with hair nets making food in the kitchen at the school they were eating it in... I had what they called a grilled cheese. I did not think in Wisconsin you could mess up a grilled cheese! They grilled it on one side only I think to keep from drying it out put them in a foil pan with a heater and when the kids ate they they were like rubberized hockey pucks in the shape of a triangle... Then there was the story about the chicken nuggets that basically were only chicken innards... Kid packed a lunch after that.
Put 7 turkey eggs under the broody tonight. She seems all settled into the maternity ward after shutting her in last night... She is so fluffed up. So t - 27 days ... Fingers crossed everyone!

good evening,

I just came in from the shop,, I made another hatching tray,, It is only one inch deep..that will make it easier to see the chicks when they hatch,,
I have to add extenders to each side yet, but I don't want to open the hatcher to measure because there are eggs pipped..
It can wait until tomorrow..

Tracy, are those both 220 units ? did you fasten them together ?

I took the lone chick out of bator #1 before,, now there is another one in there.... He must have just hatched,, still all wet .. I know it is not one of mine, must be Pang's ..

Amyable,, did you mean ,,,,

Annie got called into work tonight,, sooo, no carrot cake,, but my chili was great,, I just might have another bowlful before bedding down..

the kids brought home some sugar covered pizza crust.. It was more like dessert than a meal.

..........jiminwisc........

I found the tray where the newest chicks are hatching from.. I transferred the eggs into the new tray until tomorrow when I open the hatcher to remove chicks ..

According to the badge on the front they are both 220 and yes I attached them together. I was thinking that I could have a wire shorted out somewhere as I only replaced the main wire coming in thru the top. I'll give it a look over at another time. My main goal now is to get the temps where they should be. When I had them both running the other one seemed to heat up faster, maybe the heating element is going bad on the main one with the turner, I'll check it over tomorrow if temps aren't up and change it out with the extra one.

Just checking in. We got 5 eggs today, momma hen is the only one not laying...yeah almost back to normal.
Raining here again tonight. I sure hope my seeds are liking it. I hope it doesn't hit the frost point as we dip down in temp. It'll kill the sprouts. Is spring ever gonna come? Or are we going straight to summer?
Better go to bed...nite all.

so I assume you sold the mennonite guy the 110..

If it is cold where you have them, you might want to toss a quilt over them..
I would plug any unnecessary holes, too..there is such a volume of air in there, I don't think a chick would suffocate ..
He's taking the other 220 one and a friend will be taking the 110 bator. I'm still waiting for the call back from the menonite man, if it's not soon I have others that want it. I'll see how the temps are in the morning and if it's not high enough I'll cover it like you suggested. I plan on building a wall around it in the garage and filling it with insulation to help hold the heat in. I did plug all the holes the other day as their are enough vents to regulate the air. BTW, where do I get some of those 220 bulbs? I somehow burnt out the bigger one today moving the bators in place. We have Ace Hardware here and Walmart. I just never needed them to know where to purchase.

Morning all.
Gotten real chilly here again after this last nice weekend. Even supposed to slightly freeze again tonight. Then right back to 60's and 70's this weekend. I do believe we have a retake of last years weather again (besides the snow in May this time) and head straight to summer again. I just hope the ducks in our "lake" will find and eat a LOT of mosquito larvaes so that they won't turn out quite as bad... Otherwise might have to make full body mosquito suits...

Everything the same still here. The smell, mess and ducks are growing fast, the big ones should hopefully be all feathered out in a week or two and can go outside then. Just gotta wait (and help) SO to build the rest of the duck condo complex he started and move them in there. Maybe we will get our screen covered gazebo back for us then. Lol

Planning on heading to the Neillsville swap this weekend too. Gonna meet someone there to pick up some more Ancona ducklings (black spotted ones this time) and hopefully get outta there without much more financial damages. But with SO you can never tell!

Stacie, would really like to get to meet you so I might have to wear a name tag saying: "the crazy duck lady" so you can wave and scream at me when you see me. Lol. Evidently my glasses don't help me see anyone...

That's it for now. Just really wish I could make it to the bash but there's a less than 5% chance to go there :(( and I was SOOO looking forward to it! Gonna plan for next year then. Preparation time should be enough for that, don't you think?!

Out to do chores now, then get groceries and start making dinner for the hungry bear (SO). Ttyl!
