Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good afternoon,

I just sent 43 chicks home with Pang.. her batch of eggs is about done hatching.. not a real good %..

I took an order for 24 of my cross breed chicks today.. the lady wants them as young as I can provide.. she wants her son to witness the whole process of raising a chicken..

I had to open the hatcher, so I took the opportunity to measure the newest hatching tray and see how it fits into the hatcher..

I have to call the other lady to come get her chicks.. she said she would be here this afternoon,, I don't have any starter crumbles to feed chicks.. It is getting late.. some of these are 2 days old already..

I thought I had more to say,,

I am heading out to the shop to put the outriggers onto the tray ..

Hello and welcome Heather!
Glad you found us and the best guru's and advice givers I know of. Enjoy your hickeys and ducks to the fullest and maybe post some pictures!

Oh, there is also our annual Cheesehead bash coming up the end of this month. The link to that thread is in either TerriO's or (I think) bigzio's signature. Hope you can make it there!
that is a heII of a way to welcome a newcomer,, want to scare her off ? just because her name is Heather,, maybe she is different than our infamous Heather ..
I agree, though,, Heather, enjoy your hickeys while you can.. I can do without the pictures, though.

Well I'm officially State Flock Tested, such a load off. I don't have to worry about selling my chicks at swaps anymore. I have 17 chicks hatched so far, 10 SS, 2 BLRW, 4 EE and 1 Prod. over a dozen external pips and a bunch more internals.

Still can't get the temp on bator above 85, goin to pull the ceramic heater out of one of the others and try it. Nothing else going on here other than excited for the Neillsville swap Saturday to sell chicks.

Wildsam: it will be me, my daughter and her bf coming Sat, we both have blonde hair and will have a small table with a tote full of chicks. Stop by and say hi.
are you using the thermometer in the bator,? I assume you are using the bator with the turning lugs on it.. Hmmmm,, I think I would throw a quilt over it.. that is what I did when it got chilly outside..

I did get it up to 99 and I did hatch a bunch of eggs..

It has two thermostats,, maybe one of them is preventing it from going to a higher temp ?

is there an indicator light that goes on when the heater is on ? I thought there was ..

I got a call about the Blazer today.. still needs plugs, air filter and a new thermostat ..

If it is finished by this weekend, I might just test drive it to Neilsville.. ..

will definitely do that! Just gotta find my eye sight again. lol. Too much ducky mess around the house here, and bf just wants to watch their funny antiques and not clean them... so it is on to me of course. Can't wait for Saturday!

Btw, do you know how old pheasant chicks have to be to be tested? Or could I sell them (they're a bit over a week old now) without being tested? No clue yet...

Jim, I did not mean to scare her off, but she has to be warned about all the information overload she will get from all of you! Someone's gotta prepare her for all the posts and information...lol

I'm not even sure the one in the bator works so I put in my own. The hatcher on top is getting warmer but I didn't put a thermometer in it, will do that now. I'll have to mess around with the thermostats and see if I can figure it out. They haven't gotten warm enough for the light to go off yet. I did cover with many blankets lastnight after you mentioned it and didn't do anything. It's holding the same temp since lastnight so it must be something I'm doing wrong. And yes I'm using the main one with turner.

Quote: If you do not get the "room" built around the bators, maybe you could screw some rigid insulation to the outside of the boxes wherever there is a flat spot to attach it to.. ?

IDK what they used for insulation when those were built...
maybe it was some sort of loose fill and it might have settled to the lower area inside the double wall ?

I know that was a problem with older houses which had blown insulation inside the walls..

before you do anything drastic, the temps are supposed to warm up for this weekend.. see what happens then ..

I sent all of the hatched chickens to their new homes today.. Now I come down here and there is a chick staring at me through the hatcher door..he is lonely.. looks like a roo..

I am going to mix all the leftover eggs into one tray and give them one more day to hatch,, then they will become high protein high calcium chicken food..

another solution might be to drill a series of holes all over the sides and pump in Great Stuff or the like, ?

Jim you KNOW there's only one of me! This thread would get entirely too lively and off topic if there was more!!

oh HO !! so you are still with us.. I wondered what it would to shake you loose..

I had to take a break and go watch my bro Dave on channel 9;
10 O'clock news in Wausau,,
It was the feature about the Viet Nam vets ..

Hi All!

Well, Pepper my black Cochin went broody. I gave her 4 eggs to hatch. I'm surprised she's the only one broody, although there still might be one in the loft, never did get it closed off good.

Nothing more to say but..... Night All!
