Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi All!

Sclark..... If you have any suspects on the green egg layer you could put different color food coloring on their vents and see what color is on the egg. If it doesn't show in a couple of days, try a new group.

Nothing new.... night all!

Did she get a new broom?

Just wanted to pop in and say hi! BlackBrookPoultry sent me over. I'm in Hudson, and just starting my adventures in chickens.

Welcome! What kind of chickies do you habe?

Welcome to the Cheesehead thread!  :frow

Kinda creepy, Mellie!  :p

So sorry to hear about the girls, David.  :hugs    That really stinks. What kind of hens did you have? Was it still the seabrights, or did you give those to a neighbor? I hope you can get your coop reinforced before the new ones need it. Good luck with the babies.

Does anyone have any silkie hatching eggs for sale? My sis had a coon attack & lost all but one of her silkies. Thanks in advance.  :hugs

If she would like to wait a bit on the silkie eggs, I have two pullets that just started to lay sporadically. And it would be a bit until theor eggs wpuld be regular and ready. They are fertile so far :)

I am taking a little trip this afternoon. Found some chicks from foley lines. BLRW. Pics looked good. And I am excited!
I habe a batch due this weekend. And no more room to keep these babies! Lol
We are really getting things going on the growing out! Can't wait for fall to see how they all turn out!

Delisha, the SLW are finally laying well :) they have been penned for 1 week.

Can I ask where you found the chicks Melanie? Cadott by chance?

I emailed the one in River Falls and asked ALOT of questions. I'll let you know what I find out! Keep me posted with those chicks please.
As I suspected, Cadott birds aren't straight Foley she has. She has decendents of Foley crosses. He did state that some of his were sold to her. Also found out the birds from Hudson are GLW crossed with BLRW, that would explain some of the problems.

"I purchased 16 chicks from Foley two years ago and then bought back a dozen eggs from a young lady in Sisters Oregon who was working on her show quality Wyandottes, though she was more into Silver laced. I hatched out 6 chicks. Last year I hatched out around 100 chicks from a combination of these birds and kept back the top ten hens and two roosters from these chicks. The parents were mostly splash hens on a black laced rooster as I only had two blue hens from the Foley birds and the oregon birds. I have eight blue hens and two splash hens as they were the most correct ones. One of my roosters is more red on the hackles and the other is more blue. Both very nice shaped birds." Direct from him(Steve)
These sell for $8 straight run, which isn't bad as I'm getting $10 but I will sex with the provisions you take one cockerel.
I hope this helps in your decision on what to buy. It's nice to have other options out there too.

I would much rather pay more money for a bird that I know has more thought into making than pay less to someone who is just breeding for the money. JMHO
