As Jim mentioned, yeah, I totally agree a lot of us need an extra coop or two, but for one of my broodies (last year), I just put her & her nest into a rabbit cage & set it in a corner of the coop. Worked like a charm when they were small. Then I moved them to larger accommodations as they got bigger.Ok so I need to have a back up plan, possibly move one or more of the "top" hens out of the broody area and into the main coop/nestbox soon after the chicks hatch,....I just need another coop or two!
I put cardboard down on the floor & covered it with paper towels & wood shavings when they were really small so their feet wouldn't go through the bars. But she didn't let them out of the nest much at first.
