Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I think she better worry about more than perrenials being eaten if she's got Anacondas in her yard. LMAO

Ok so I need to have a back up plan, possibly move one or more of the "top" hens out of the broody area and into the main coop/nestbox soon after the chicks hatch,....I just need another coop or two!
As Jim mentioned, yeah, I totally agree a lot of us need an extra coop or two, but for one of my broodies (last year), I just put her & her nest into a rabbit cage & set it in a corner of the coop. Worked like a charm when they were small. Then I moved them to larger accommodations as they got bigger.

I put cardboard down on the floor & covered it with paper towels & wood shavings when they were really small so their feet wouldn't go through the bars. But she didn't let them out of the nest much at first.

Just pulled a tick off the back of my neck...gonna be a long night of itching !
Kristip..can't wait to see pictures of the silkie/ameraucana chicks. Wonder what color eggs they will lay too.

If that pile of eggs under Pepper don't hatch by Sat. I'm going to pull them. They have hatched by now.

Night All!

OH.... those with curly toed birds.... I wonder if you did the treatment for wry neck if that would help.

Hmm got up to play and check in to see what's new. Where are you early birds hidding?

Do you remember how to get to Waves. Go north on 45 until you get to Hwy K. Shell station on Corner. Turn right (East) on Highway K. Not to far maybe 1/2 a mile you'll see her signs, turning left (North)on Sunset or Sun something road.

Ice Cream shop is on the south side of town on 45. You go past it on your way to Waves.
Ice cream shop is on the right side( east side) of road if you are going toward Waves. Left side of road on your way home from Waves. lol

Morning all. Chilly, windy and rainy and don't like it much but we need a few days like this between the hot ones.

Kinda sad right now as my favorite duckling passed last night. It sounded really congested, like it had pneumonia. But couldn't do anything bit give it vitamins as we don't have an avian vet anywhere close by. The evening before bf had also found one dead. They were just 4-5 weeks old. Hope that's the end of it. Separated all the others away, bleach-cleaned everything and had her in a box on a heating pad next to my bed. I can't get myself to take her out and bury her. :(

Other birds are fine, just complaining that I won't let them out to play. Gonna do that in a few. Just gotta push myself and do it. And I really don't wanna... Sigh...

Lemme do it now before I crawl back to bed and bawl. I miss her snuggles already... :((

CC: Good info: I originally bought 3 wire rabbit cages to set up like that...only managed to get one of the larger ones put together! Did yoou have any issues with them accepting the cardboard box for nesting over a covered nestbox? Do you leave the door open up until day 18? or...? What about after chicks hatch; when do you open the cage door?
