Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good Morning All! Good to hear from you Tyler! You sound as busy as always. ODrH I'm with you on the raw maters can't eat them or drink the juice but love them cooked in the things. I know I would love a good spicy bloody mary at times, like yesterday. Not really a hangover yesterday Raiquee but just a little fuzzy around the edges. Practice Practice Practice! BFF has about 20 bags of soil might have to scarf a couple for a window box. Raminel glad you checked in where ya been? Today is another day going to be spent figuring out materials needed for house repairs from the flood for the IRS. Fun Fun Fun!

Morning all

woke early to take the 5 month old Aussie foster pup out and then watched some bator TV, as of now 2 chicks out, 9 pipped and 3?

have a good one....back to watch the eggs!

Hurley-I just recently got into quail. I won't eat my birds, but do eat their eggs. They are good. Taste like a little chicken egg. The meat is suppose to be good. From what I have heard, bobwhite's taste the best but are harder to keep( longer mature time and aggresiveness), but the cortunix is a easy keeper(matures at 6 to 8wks) and tastes pretty good. Go to the quail thread on BYC and there is tons of info. I'm no expert, but have been reading alot about them. I have cortunix and will probably get bobs in the spring.
Hi Tyler, good to see you. H&R-

Go babies, Go babies.
Off to clean today. See you all later!

Just had to jump back on. I opened up P and Btwo's appartment for a test to see if they were going to acclimate to the rest. Was watching them pretty close while doing dishes. Then saw Buster upset and behind the coop. Went out to check on things and here was Peatwo in a snow bank hiding from Buster. He had a little scratch on his comb so I put them back in the safety of the appartment [ Daddy Daddy save me!] and while doing so found 2 poult eggs of a darker color and texture than the slw's. Btwo is laying at 15 weeks!

Gonna put a 6 gal pail in for her to get away from Peatwo.

I just love those little eggs! Speaking of little eggs...my button quail are laying like mad and I am making some spicy pickled eggs out of them today for my GFs B-day. She loves Martinis and I have heard that they are excellent on a little pick in that drink. I cant stand a martini but they are a favorite of hers...

I have a martini glass that I will put a pack of cocktail napkins in and the eggs. Maybe a little bottle of some fancy alcohol...it will be a good present.

Well Bernie had her hip surgery yesterday and all is good! (thank you Lord!) I guess she didnthave to have any pins or anything--sounds more like she ldislocated it than broke it. Her sister wasnt real clear about the whole thing. I guess she will be in therapy (which she hates...I feel sorry for the therapist) for 3 weeks or so and then maybe home or to her sons for a while. I hope not for too long as she is my main client!

The yard looks BAD!!! i am going to have to get out the foot mitten for the dogs again. The house stays a lot cleaner if I wipe their paws when they come in...but it is MANY paws to wipe!

So much MUD is now visible...I hope it snows before it gets too cold...my plants will really suffer with no cover!

Well, I am off to the quail boards...gotta read up some more! ODrH--this is my first attempt with quail and I am getting a mixture of eggs for different colors. I have read about having quail and letting them out to free-range, retaining a few in the pen to call in the free rangers at dark. I might try this. I dont know if you can do it with coturnix or if it is only bobwhites. BTW--the Bobs are wild here in WI...where you are, maybe you could get a few and they would call in some wild ones for you? YOu have to make or buy a special one way door--kind of like a funnel. If you get some we will have to trade some babies for new blood!
Have a great day! Terri O

i've had quail off and on for years, love them and bob's are not mean from what i've had, love the buttons best, plus if they get out you wait till night fall and they come home

Hello all. Been Busy around here doing much of nothing. All the boys got some sort of gun for Christmas so we did a little shooting, also did lots of playing with new toys.

Gotta LOVE this weather, did a complete deep litter clean out of the coop today, as well as the Raken House (rabbit -Chicken house). Also did a little perch remodeling and nest box addition as the hens are Finally coming into laying...WOOOOHOOOOO......

The seed order is figured out, as is the chicken order. Now, where did that money tree go that I planted last year??? LOL.

Be safe, be smart, have a good new years eve.

Hey everyone! A new cheesehead here! Moved to Grantsburg, WI this past June! Used to live in the northern suburbs of Minneapolis. We much prefer our 40 acres, to less than 1 acre in town!

Anyway, I have my License from the DNR to raise and release pheasants. We did 100 our first year! After the cannablism, only about 87 were released. But we thought that was pretty good for our first year with birds.

Also, we have 12 chickens we are keeping through the winter. Black Australorps, Cornish X, Wyandottes, and mutts.

We had 4 ducks, and about 30 chickens earlier in the year. We butchered some and gave a few chickens to a friend.

My Black Aussies just started laying eggs a few days before Christmas!

We will be building a new coop in the spring, and will also add on a little room for a hatchery!

I also have about 15 guineas on order for this spring so far, and will be placing more orders as the weather starts getting warmer!

HELLO FELLOW CHEESEHEADS!

magoochie! Glad you found us-great group of people here, always willing to help each other out! Just stopped in to give a hatch up date we have 7 chicks out with 4 pipped and 3?

Most of the snow here is melted away, let the chickens out of the coop again today-not to sure of the muck... but some are brave

Happy New Years to All, plus it's fish friday besides....tonight it's bluegills and ho made frys.
Yep I'm getting anxious for the new sandhill catalog to arrive too. I saved alot of seeds from the garden last year. Still need to order alot of stuff I choose not to save.
The flocks are indeed enjoying this balmy weather. It's been a pretty much non stop crow fest going on here today....I just love the beautiful music.

Welcome magoochie.... glad you found us and the happiness we have here.
Good Luck with the repairs Doc. If I was closer I would give you a hand. Hope the boys can get along for you. It sure makes life easier, if they do, eh!
Good Luck Tyler...I'll check out your link later.

I'm really pleased with the grass clippings that were baled in bags. It really works nice in the nest boxes. The hens create a perfect round nest. The eggs are always nice and clean.
In the latest issue of Backyard Poultry....Gail Damerow recommends them for use with new day old chicks too! The nice part is the price.

Stay Safe, Have Fun... ~ bigzio
