I cook it in the microwave. I let it cool a little. Don't want them burning their little tongues.

T.O. I do but don't know about the others. Then I spray it on my wrist to check the temp oh wait thats the recipe for baby formula. Oatmeal lets see oh ya I stick my finger in it. I give it to them luke warm and they do love their raisins! No fighting over those. Their not as keen on it as I thought they would be but they clean it up. Something warm in their bellys and I take out warm water in the AM's. I did a bad thing the other morning. I didn't take the normal head count before closing the inner door. I have the inside of the coop partitioned off with a small area that holds bales of rye straw and 2 feed barrels one with feed and the other with cracked corn. When I got home I opened the outer and straw spilled out. Here was Blondie smilin at me she had scratched her way through about half an open bale. There's a lot of seed in it so it was a good choice for bedding. At first I felt bad for having her left out of the coop area then realized that I should have felt bad for the rest of the girls. I'm thinking that she was doing a little dance and saying Na Na Na Na this is all mine. But felt bad cause she didn't have any water all day. Anyway it turned out to be a good thing some was added to the coop floor and some to the run. Just got home from going over and blowing out a friend of mines house. He's had 2 knee replacements [same leg] and a couple of weeks ago he fell on the ice at work and busted up his knee cap, same knee. All within about 2 years. Think you've got it bad? Man that's gotta suck! But he's in good spirits as always and their good people. I'm soo excited about Peaches! I've had several scenarios running through my head, however it plays out I'll document it with pics. This is going to fun! Hope I can sleep tonight.

Thanks, ya'll, for the recipe of the oatmeal - I had never heard of it before this site. Question I have though, and yes, all animals are different, but if raisins are poison for dogs, (can't remember the toxicity reason of why), can large amounts of them be bad for the birds? I have a box in the pantry that I am thinking of giving them, in addition to the grass I pull for them every day....
Just curious, and we all know what curiosity did the the cat, lol!

cedar post; You Suck! I haven't followed my own advice for waay too long. I have an invite to go tomorrow evening with my best friend for a 4:30 bite of crappies. But with the new addition coming I don't know guess I'll play it by beak. Probably won't go. We fish in our T shirts, it's fun! But as always something more important has come up. That has to stop!

I never heard that before myself. But they also say that chocolate is poisonous for dogs. I say " bull hoowwiiee!!!!" My dog I had growing up was a border collie mix and lived to 17 before he went blind and deaf and couldn't control his bladder and his hips went, so my parents had to put him down. I fed that dog TONS of chocolate!!!! I hate chocolate with the coconut filling.

Every Easter I'd get this giant egg like that and I'd give it to him. I talking, this thing was huge! Like the size of your whole hand. It was his fav! Every holiday and sometimes inbetween, he'd get chocolate. Maybe that's why he lived so long.

My dogs eat anything! And I mean that! Even whole eggs I found out. I had given the girls antibotics this summer so I was throwing the eggs in the compost. My older dog, another border collie mix, ended up eating them all! I was just tossing them over there adn I knew some were not braking. Didn't think any thing of it until one day I had to go dump the chicken hay back there. And here's the dog, gobbling up the eggs!

Crazy dog!

Yay! Fixed the laptop!!!!! Now for the PC......

Fordmommy, chocolate IS toxic to dogs, it just depends on the amount they eat. It has to be a fairly large portion for a bigger dog, not so much for a tiny one. Raisins, grapes, garlic, and onions are on that list as well. As few as 6 raisins can kill a dog so be careful!!!! (Reason why; there is a chemical component of grapes/raisins that becomes a toxin when digested by a dog, and the onions/garlic, well they lack the enzyme to digest them so they make them sick...)

So far so good with everything else. My DH fixed the microwave and he can fix the stove so we are ok there. The cell... well I wanted a new one anyway and I found out our contract is up so we can get new phones super reduced!!!! YAY!!!

Everyone give a big shout out to Tyler and Purely Poultry! He was written up in the local paper on his business plan win at Oshkosh, and he has bigger plans in the works! I'll let him tell his secrets himself.......

Good morning fellow Wisconsinites! Man it is cold today! Cant wait for the warm up this week. I had all intentions of cooking oatmeal for the lock yesterday...couldnt find those darn raisins AND I was out of oatmeal! But I did mae them some cornmeal mush instead! I think it was a little hot in spots...some shoo their heads when they bit at it! It cooled quick enough though and when I went back with new water the whole pot was gone! I will do some more for them today---darn stuff is buggy again anyhow. So Happy Sunday all; get some rest for tomorrow is Monday already. Terri O

They're home! They're home! We just walked in the door with our bantys. Wowsers is it cold out there! It was -2 in the town where the breeder is but a sultry +5 here in MadTown. On the drive out my 7yo daughter started whimpering about how getting chickens was all my idea and she wasn't sure she really wanted them and maybe she was scared of them. Well, the breeder set the box on her lap for the ride home and now she's in love and can't leave them alone.

Now to finish setting things up and take some pix. Hope everyone is staying warm and having a great morning!

Congrats ZohBug with your new additions. Watching them for hours in the brooder is a real blast. Time to find a comphy chair. You're gonna need it.

Good Luck cedar post. I hope you catch a ton of fish.

Dr H, do you have any of the black layers from sunneyside?

They might be neat to have a few of.

Big playoff day today for the Pack at the Cards. I hope they can stay alive and go all the way. We are tailgaiting in the house today. Made a bunch of brats, and shared a few with the flock. We cut them up into small pieces and served them warm. They again provided me with a empty dish in minutes...
