Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning, it seems that I am on a new schedule,, going to bed before midnight and waking uup at 5 AM.. I will be ready for a nap by noon..

Mel, did you find enough wine to make the pain go away ?
Maybe you should contact the Governor, he must have a long list of jobs by now..

Cind, even though those hawks are potential visitors, it must still be neat to watch something like that.. we can't hate the birds and animals,, just hate the times they come a callin'..

Stacy, are those birds a sanctioned breed ? You might not be able to enter them at Portage ..

.........jiminwisc.........
I showed them last year at Portage..
Wyandottes are a sanctioned breed.
BLR is a new color variety and needs to be shown for 5 years.

I think an unrecognized variety of a breed can be shown (and must be shown in order to become recognized) but can't place any higher than BV...Best of Variety.
I hope someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
yes.... They can't be placed on Champion row.

I live in the Fox Valley area, WI. I am new to chickens--got my first six in early June. They are now 4 1/2 months old. I really wanted 10 to start with but my husband said let's go slow. Now he thinks we should add 4-6 more to the flock. I've been checking craigslist every day. No one seems to have pullets to sell right now. I'm not equipped to take any that need an incubator still. And I'd ideally like some my chickens age. I have 2 gold stars, 1 Easter Egger, 1buff Orpington, 1black australorp, and 1 silver-laced Wyandotte. If anyone here knows anyone that has any for sale please let me know. Thank you!

It is raining buckets! We have gotten 1.88 inches of rain so far with round two on the way.... flash flood and severe thunderstorm warnings. Yippee.

Does anyone live near St. Catharines, ON?

I do not, but I was just there.
The deputy said that she gets a warning. If it happens again she gets a "dog at large" fine. That could start a war, because my dog is not kept kenneled or leashed. He does wander into her yard if he's chasing something. So I'd rather not go there. I'll give her a list of what he's killed
Lemon blue bantam cochin hen, blue bantam cochin hen, swedish flower hen, English orp hen, 1 silkie, 8 cornish/rock, 1 mixed breed rooster, 1 blue fawn call duck, and I'm unsure if the Barnevelder will make it. I'm not sure what to charge her. Mostly because I can't really prove it was him the two other times. I know by the nasty little bite marks and the sloppy killing that it was, but I don't have real proof. What do you guys think?

I think you were more than fair and are on the right route in the event that this critter decides to visit again.
Gus picked now to shed his winter coat ,, he sure is looking thin ..
he doesn't like it when I pull the clumps of fur off of him.. it must sting just a little, or else he just doesn't like to be "picked" on .. especially sensitive around his rump and upper hind legs.. and that is where the most is left.. there are clumps of white all over the property .. neat to watch when I hit them with the lawn mower .. POOF !!!
Theo has been shedding for about 3 weeks.

I haven't heard a word from the neighbor lady since I brought her the bill. AND her dog was in our driveway the other day chasing our car as we left. We had my son practice with the 22 the other night. I only know how to use the 9mm "assult rifle". That should roll that little sucker. I've made the mistake of keeping all of my feed in the attached garage. I now have a chipmunk problem. So, today I moved all of the feed out and swept everywhere. I also had chicks in there that I moved out to the coop. Guess they're done with the heat light.

good evening, by now everybody should have had some rain..

we had a couple of nice downpours.. Someday I might get a rain gauge .. Yah, right,, as soon as I got one, we would go into a severe drought ..

I still have not had to water the garden.. such a perfect summer for rain for us..

I redid a few teeth on the 3 pt cultivator and made it into a 3 pt drag.. It went easier and quicker than I thought it might..

had cowboy beans for supper,, and carrot cake for dessert .. had brats, too but I passed on them,, I will prolly have one for a midnight snack.. and another piece of carrot cake..

3 more days of waiting, and then my new grass should start to grow..

the last batch of eggs goes into lockdown on Tuesday,, 19th.. then I am turning the last incubator off and hauling them up and out of the basement.. going to set up in one of the coops for next year's hatching,, that is, IF I do any hatching..
