Hmmmm....I think its more of a favorites thing. Very peaceful flock. They make great chickentv.

Their free ranging is going to be limited soon. DW is not amused with them using flower beds for dust baths. They have never been confined to a run....so we shall see how it goes. I'm still trying to figure out how to protect flower beds and still let them free range. They are very alert to their surroundings, and quick to sound an alarm & head for cover.

Hm, our yard is so wet they are still dust bathing in the coop.
I have had issues with them making divits in the flowers. I have found if I water them on a regular basis it "helps" as they find a more dry area.
However if you have ducks you need to water less more often. If there is standing puddles the ducks then take advantage ;)
I am letting the kiddos stay up very late. We are currently at that hyper overtired stage. It will be a matter of minutes until we are to the tattlint mom I got hurt stage!

And it will soon be peaceful again hehe

I think the flu might finally be breaking! Whoo-hoo!

I was wondering if any if you guys have helpful tips to share with me about if a chicken is a chicken and a rooster is a rooster. I have 3 baby chicks at the moment. and I have two pullets and one straight run. And he/she is white. I live in the city and I can't have a rooster. and I've developed a bond with him already and I'm just scared that he might be a rooster? any helpful tips you guys know about tell if a chick is a rooster or a chicken?

First Silkie hatched out of this batch now for 40 more eggs to hatch. I thought for sure I would of woke up to a bunch of chicks but only more pips. It is only day 19 today so nothing to get worried about.

I set 5 EE and 1 BLRW lastnight, can that be considered for the Easter Hatch?

Jim: have you ever had issues with the valve in the water reservoir sticking? I have very hard water and seems nearly every batch I have to tear the dang thing apart and clean it as when I went to candle lastnight it was stuck again and didn't notice earlier so my humidity dipped to 35%, not sure how long so I hope like heck it wasn't long enough to ruin the hatch. Maybe just replace the o-ring in there? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Amy, your daughter is beautiful...congratulations!

BL4, nice pics...that cake looks yummy.

Welcome to all the newbies!

Jim, I was at the swap and if those are the birds I’m thinking of you really couldn’t tell much about them. They were packed into boxes so tight that it just looked like one mass of red/buff feathers. My general impression was they were typical used production birds…thin and pale.

Does anyone, who attended the swap, know who was set up on the side wall near the food court? He had some nice light Brahmas but the best trio was sold before I got there and I forgot to ask if he’d have more in fall.

yes im hatching ....well incubating...close to 250 eggs....this will be something else...haahaha jumbo quail, mixed chickens, and fly tieing chickens...so well see what happens...the ones that came in the mail...the air cells were so damaged...im hoping for the best
