Hi All!

TO... Hoping the best! BTW.... what kind of Bio-security did the testers use?

Jim... Nice knob.

That description of symptoms sounds like things we have all had at one time or another in our flocks.

Nothing new here (yet).... Night all!
Same statement Cindy that many of us said at the training seminar. They did say that the one flock that had AI years ago, all were buried on the property to keep contained and back in 30 or so days to reinspect after everything was disinfected so the man could start anew. Looking thru the copy of the Powerpoint they give and it says can live for 35+ days in summer months and 3+ months during the winter in soil, manure and water. Killing agents are detergents, quarternary ammonium, phenols, formalhehyde, alkalis.

I was wondering the same about bio-security. It just makes me cringe thinking about what they could drag with them from place to place.

Well they were here and now are gone. They did not seem overly concerned about the disease (just doing my job...) The farm is quarantined until the tests come back. THey tested 5 chickens, 5 ducks, a turkey and 5 geese. Then there were a bunch of questions about people that have visited, where I have been etc. My feed guy called me and said that they will work with me and bring my food out to the driveway. I am supposed to order what I think I will need for 3 weeks...no idea where I will put that much! My barrels can hold about a week and a half or so...

Thanks for all the thoughts...I am hoping all is OK. If not I believe they cull all birds and bury them on site....according to a website I checked. All of Jefferson County is under quarantine right now. No birds in and no birds OR bird products out...looks like we will be eating o whole bunch of eggs here!

Good golly! I hope all goes well with that hassle, TO!!

Yeah but how secure were they when they tested? If your birds didn't have anything when they started they might by the time they were done... just sayin.

So what causes angel wing? My one and only lavender australorp that hatched on Easter has real looking wing feathers and both sides look stick out terrible. None of the others do... is it heat, light, food?
