I am soooo relieved ..

Wont let me post pics...but my broody brahma is a proud mama. She had a much rougher time than the bcm. So far 2 OE's hatched. None of the lb/bcm mix hatched. If the oe's are both hens I'll find homes for them.

So excited for you glarner! Yes the rules for those in town are ridiculous.

Sorry for these losses guys!

On a plus we have mom home from the hospital after three weeks there. We are making th big decisions this weekend on what we need to do. Probably senior apartments with s visiting nurse. So then cleaning out her condo, painting etc.

Ok...who knows about Wyandotte? I have four 2 week old wyandottes...three look the same..the fourth is smaller and darker. The other three have light colored patches on top of their wings... Please don't tell me I have three Roos and a hen...that would be my luck. Hoping it is the other way around. Babies are starting to fly and perch... Time to move them to the garage pen that is more secure!

Ugh just noticed that the male Welsummer has a cross beak...not horrible but not great. Bummer. Survivable or cull

We're 90% ready for the girls to arrive on Friday! Inspection tomorrow, then I go pick them up at the CSA farm on Friday. So excited.

I'll lay down wood shavings in the bottom of the coop, with straw in the nest boxes and Sweet PDZ in the poop trays. I'm very, very pleased with how this coop turned out -- and SO happy with my DH (with help from our dads) for building it!

Looks very sweet - good job!! The gnome is a nice touch, too!

It's not nice to pick on the elderly..

Oh my word, super glue on their butt? Wow, would never have thought.
Yep, superglue = redneck stitches.

It actually works pretty darn good. I thought that was the hens back?

Last summer, I had a few hens get their sides torn open by the roosters. It looked a lot worse then your hen Irish, but animal bites are way worse. Be sure to keep a very close eye on that wound for redness, heat and swelling. It may get infected.

For the torn open skin, I washed the injuries out really well, loaded them up with antibiotic ointment without the painkiller (great point BBP), put a tough pad on the wound (make sure to warm it in your hand then press & hold it on the would for a few minutes) and then wrapped them really well with vetwrap to prevent them from yanking it off. Then I put them in a cage with a towel over the top to help keep them from getting too much light to prevent them from laying eggs. I also put vitamins/electros in their water & gave them some foods high in protein & vitamin A. I always isolate my injured birds from the rest of the flock until they are completely healed. Otherwise the other birds may pick on them and slow down the healing process. The last thing a sick or injured bird needs is more stress. A warm, dark and quiet place works wonders to speed up healing.

These are the Tough Pads. I got them at Walmart. I will never be without them in my chicken first aid kit anymore. You can just leave them on until they fall off. Since a couple of my girls had such extensive damage that should have had stitches, I left them on for two weeks. Then I removed the vet wrap. The birds removed the pads in a day and the wounds were completely healed.

Kildare, the mink that attacked my flock killed the biggest rooster I had on the first night. And he was a whopper (the rooster).

I wish I would have weighed him. I had a hen named Limpy but the mink got her too.

Kristi, that is great news about your mom. I hope she will like her new apartment.

The pic might be deceiving but I don't see much room between the roost and the wall. Are you getting bantams? Those grey walls are going to make it really dark in there in the winter. Just sayin.

One of the cats had to have surgery yesterday to remove 3 bladder stones. I have been a wreck the past couple days. At least he is home now, poor baby. Chickens are all doing well and eggs are in the incubator. Thank you Del!

Hi All!

Yes, the bash is the Weekend after Memorial Day.... http://https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/952956/sixth-annual-wi-cheesehead-bash This is it in a large nut shell. Anymore questions.... ask! Don't feel weird about age, occupation (or lack of) physical restrictions (LOL we have a number of those, and I'm working on being queen! LOL) or anything else. We are an odd lot of chicken lovers and that's about it. So far the raffles have covered the the cost of the camping and all you would have to do id bring a dish to pass for the pot luck if all you want is to join in that. The White Elephant is a blast and can be anything you don't want or need. Sometimes some cool stuff shows up but it can be anything. (Stuff for kids and teens is welcome too!) If you want to donate to the raffle, anything worth a couple of bucks is welcome (we try to bring 5 gal pails) or something nice is real welcome! Things for either one do not have to be chicken related, but cool if they are!

There might have been more to say, but I'm ready for bed.... Night All!
