We got a permit from the dnr to release them. We released about 85. a dozen or so died from cannablism within the first 8 weeks. We stil have about 3 of them that hang around the yard. A few neighbors came buy and said they were seeing them from their deer stands, so they are dispersing.

I love those little pheasants! So adorable! THey look kind of like little chipmunk chicks. I also like to see how well they blend in to the brush when they got their feathers...no wonder they can nest on the ground and are hard to hunt! THat would be a fun thing to do I think.

My ewe is passing a sac tonight...not sure if she aborted (didnt find anything) or if she is still going to deliver tonight. I checked her when I got home from work and after the sac came out she was eating like normal; but still laying down, She hasnt been up for 5 days I think. I felt inside but there is nothing behind the sac even though she is open. I am going to go out again at 10 and see if there is any progress. The think is, if a baby is born and she cant get up, she cant clean it and she cant feed it either. I might be getting up at 2 also!

Fun time at the dog park today...took the newish foster. She is a NICE medium sized dog but I have found out tonight that she is NOT good with cats! My cats arent really afraid of dogs and she has attacked 4 of the so far...I wish they would pop her with their claws! BAD DOG! I took the fat beagle with me to work tonight and my client LOVED her. She was so good with her Boston...of course she got lots of treats...just what she needs! NOT!

I think I am going to read my book for a bit until I have to go back outside...Terri O

(PS) I dont think that possums actually kill chickens...they do take eggs though and eat on carcasses after other things do the killing. Dr James told us that in his wildlife presentation...that is funny about the vole DrH--reminds me of when I saw a mouse drinking out of the cat dish; while the cat was watching! Are you sure it was the same one? I bet you have a whole colony of them! You should have put a string around it's neck so you would know if it was coming back in...

I could just picture that...

Your story gave me a chuckle--you just have such a way of putting things....

If I don't do corn, what else can I put in its place? Raspberries? Melons?

Why not some oil sunflowers for the chickens. They would be tall but not as tall as corn and would be great for the chickens. You could plant a spreading vine crop with them too... like squash.
That's what I plan to do. And yes, corn, unless you want the satisfaction of saying "I grew it myself", is a waste of space. yield per Sq. Ft. is pretty bad.​

Good Frigid Morning All! Thermo on the house says -16 didn't venture out to check the one I put on a tree. Cousins husband sent back 3 E's bad mouthing the Pack in retaliation for my burn. Actually entertained the idea of keeping that vole TO even named him Chester. But figured we wouldn't get any sleep with a cat TV. RIP Chester! Did a little reading on them holy cow their worse than rabbits! Stay warm! Go Pack!

Morning- sure is cold outside this am, pup made it through the night and needed to go out at 6 am. Well our Andalusian eggs are starting to pip- it's day 20 but they are always early! So today we will be watching the Packer game and bator TV!

some are waking up and finding out who it was in that accident last night. young man (under 30) with a wife and 2 kids. snowmobile vs truck/trailer. news said that alchol was a factor.

Well it's hubby's b-day today! He's turning 25 today! Yayyy!! I made him his beer "cookbook" up all night finishing it. Well it's not even finished! My printer ran out of ink part way through! It's more than 1/2 way done, doing 200 pages of recipes is really a drag lol. I hope he likes it, but I worry cause it's hand made he won't. Actually knowing hubby he will think it's awesome and go and show everyone. I just feel it was inadequate cause it wasn't bought. Which is a silly thing to feel.

I am making him spedini for dinner, it's an italian dish I learned from my Sicilian grandmother that he ADORES. He says "that beats a big fat steak ANYDAY!" All they are are meat rolls...steak pounded out and stuffed with salami, onion, garlic. Rolled, breaded and grilled. So goood though! They take me forever to make however. Anything for the hubby's b-day!

Well lets hope the Packers win today! I have no clue what time the game comes on, oh well! I usually just check facebook, easy enough for me to tell if they won or lost!

I have a very good vibe about this interview on Tuesday, I don't know why. I shouldn't get my hopes up, I just have this overwhelming feeling that i'll be working in March!

How fun H&R! I sure wish I had babies popping...of the wooly variety! I was up most of the night--until 3 anyhow when I just couldnt do it any more. I went back out at 7 and thought the ewe was dead...nope just sound asleep! She still has nothing but I had checked her last night after the second water bag came out. THere is a little lamb in there...WAAAAY in there! I am now fortifying myself with coffee so I can go out and pull that one. It is probably dead and stopping up the works. I gave her more molasses water and have oats cooling, she was eating her hay when I came in. Wouldnt it be wonderful if she was up and nursing when I went out again? (yeah right...) The trials of animals...why do we have them in this state in the winter again? Oh yeah, they're fun....

So DH is going to his friend's house for the game as usual--thinking I might go along for this one. Maybe...I wish all the games were night games--then it wouldnt feel like I was wasting my daylight hours...I might even get into it then. Although, just what is there to do outside when it's eleven below? I thought today was supposed to be the beginning of the warming trend? Guess not.

Cinlady--I planted pole beans (on accident) last year with my sunflowers. IT was actually kind of pretty too! When the leaves of the sunnies started getting brown the bean leaves were there with their pods hanging on. I tried squash planted under popcorn once and it was a disaster! Every time I say, "I think I will try corn again." I am so disappointed! Save your garden space...No corn!

NOw if I will only take my own advice!

You know I have not received a single garden seed catalog or chicken catalog! I am kind of bummed about it. I used to get a ton of them...maybe they just stopped sending cause I havent ordered in forever? I get tons of junk in the mail but now when I want to look at one of them I get nothing...well, no guilt for throwing them out is the up side I guess!

It is 9...I think it is time to do some birthin' of babies! "But Mizz Scarlet--I dont know nothin' 'bout birthin' no babies!" Good thing I know a little...Terri O
