Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Stopped at the Appleton Farmer's Market today and chatted with the guy who makes those lovely pizza cutters. I am happy to say I could finally order one from him this time! It is so nice to have weekends off so I can hit the markets!

Been running every weekend to one place or another; so this summer has been pretty busy! My tomatoes are looking great, I just need them to ripen.

Otherwise everything here has been pretty good, the summer is passing by WAY too quickly though!

Hey Jim
Question on dogs.....we rescued a dog from a kennel that was down south in a puppy mill....she is Doberman/Husky mix. Litterly, she chews up EVERTHING. She chews paper, carpeting, earphones, her cage, shoes, probably a few other things I have forgotten. We are considering a muzzle but I have read that they should not be left alone while muzzled. However, she is distructive mostly when we are gone. I have been in my bedroom a couple of time where she has chewed up electrical cords (not plugged in). Any ideas on muzzle or what we should do..by the way, when it was not as hot as today, we have tied her outside and she has chewed the plastic off her steel cabled lead. OH, and she has chewed thru her collar.

There is a great product out there called Bitter Apple. Works great for dog that chew everything. Spray it on everything you do not want them to chew on. That and putting the dog in a crate while you are gone will save you a lot of stress and worry, and be safer for the dog.

Crate has been tried....he has broken out about 5 times....He broke out today from his crate while we were gone and pulled up half the carpet in the living room......we would have to Bitter apple everything in the house. AND the house.

Do you give the dog something to chew on inside the crate? What type of crate do you have? Metal or plastic?

More information is always better than the bare minimum.

There are quite a few of us on here who have dealt with dogs who have had problems, and one of them teaches dog training in 4-H.

How long is the dog left alone? Is there anyone who can let the dog out of the crate periodically if the dog is left for an extended amount of time? Do you use the crate as punishment or just for sleeping and when you are away? Do you have experience with crate training a dog?

She sounds like she has an obsessive chewing issue; she needs to be redirected EVERY time she starts chewing something inappropriate. She also needs some one on one time training and exercise. Boredom creates a lot of unwanted behaviors. Hanging out with other dogs would help too.

Firs off, let me say, I am not a dog trainer..
Let me guess why it was in the animal shelter ..
is this dog a puppy or an older dog ?

you might not like the solution I have, but here it is..

Some dogs are crazy,, yours seems to be one..
I would have long since have given it back to the shelter, or had it put down..
I would never put up with such an animal..

If your answer is that you like the dog and want to cure it, I can't help you..

Hi All!

Firstchick....The age of the dog makes a big difference! A teething dog will chew on what ever it can! I would also take it to the vet and see if it has any dental issues. The Vet may also have some ideas to help.

Jim.... so much for no more birds! LOL Might as well pick up some layers too!
