Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Happy Labor Day to everyone.....Hope those on the road have a safe trip home!

Placed the trail cam out for the first time yesterday...nice 8 point and a doe with two fawns that still have their spots.

We did 17 pints of salsa yesterday....nice and thick the way we like it. We do kraut every year here....we grow the late cabbage, and it's prolly gonna be another month here before we are doing it.

Have Fun...bigz

This is my first time trying to make kraut. Do you have any pointers or a good good method? Any help is appreciated

got 4 eggs today out of 5 that lay. Thinking the heat the past week is what's slowing them down the most. We shall see what this cooler week brings!

Decided that having the day off I should be productive. And got the entire barn cleaned out :) had the kiddos hard at the house chores all day. Things are looking pretty tip top :) we'll see how long that lasts ;)
It is an odd feeling. But we are completely done setting the bator for the year. It is otter sweet. I think I might even wait until after winter to fire up again this uear. We plan to get our NPIP next spring. We are tested each year on the birds that show. But have not done the entire flock yet. It should be very interesting to say the least!
Hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day :)

okay bountiful harvest of peppers... Going to do stuffed green peppers and freeze them for quick dinners and then the jalapenos will be poppers for the big thanksgiving game packers vs the bears...Still have lots and lots of Hungarian waxed peppers, thinking of grilling and then packing in olive oil....
Hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday... I know I am not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow...

We accomplished a lot today with the help of my SIL. Picked bushels and bushels of produce from my gardens and from the garden of the guy we bought the produce stand from. My car was loaded down with carrots, tomatoes and beets - the last of his crop for the season and his last crop ever as he cannot do the work any more. We may pick up his pump and some of his irrigation pipes if the pump will draw down far enough to reach the water level in one of the wells (there are two outside and one in the milk house). From my gardens we got corn, beans galore, squash, melons, peppers and the beginning of the tomato bumper crop. It's like a jungle in there! Also got a huge box of apples.

My work is cut out for me!

I met one of the renters next door who just happens to be a butcher at the Pig - he has his own biz on the side and will butcher my roosters for me. It will save me from learning to kill or drive all the way to Wittenburg to get it done. If anyone wants his info let me know and I'll pass it along.

I KNOW I'm going to sleep well tonight! Hope you all do too!

Hi All!

Wow Irish...sounds like you'll be busy! Hope you sell off all you need to.

My 2nd son picked up 50 dozen ears of just picked corn. $1 a dozen. He's selling some to his sister. Hope he throws a few bags my way!

I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to the humidity going down! I am going so stir crazy being hid away in my room with the A/C! I venture out, but not for very long at a time before I feel like I'm breathing through a wet sponge. I need to look at George's feet too, it looks like he's been limping. So much to do, so far behind.

Did I miss Jim?

Night All!

Spent the day putting the top in position and depending on the rain, I will start framing in the dormer. Also decided I want to add a copula to the top so will have to get those plans drawn out and built too. It looks like a huge mess right now but I'm sure it will start coming together.

Lines show where the new fence will go, which would be up but some troll apparently stole my post pounder. I sure wish he'd kindly bring it back as the next solution will be to back up my truck and pound them in with the sledge hammer.

good morning,

today we are going to whack about 16 pullets.. they sure are getting broad across the breast, now..

I got my lawn mower all back together and have reclaimed about 80% of the lawn..still have a ways to go.. but around the garden I have to check for random stones, first..

MomGill, that was too funny,, all too true, too .

I put my 4 ft cyclone fencing on craig's list .. some of it has to be taken down.. then I have about 6 rolls of it besides..

Cind, thanks for missing me..

I sure wish I had done meat birds this year. I've never raised them but a friend gave me one he butchered from his 50 and let me tell you. Nothing like the grocery store chicken. I just finished up work at 6 am and now have a 2 hour window until I work at the locker plant. Butchering season is upon us once again
