Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Holy carp Jim that's a great idea. I'Il have to cruise through town and look for pre-bagged leaves. Hopefully Baraboo isn't like 'Stallis where you just dump your leaves in the street for the giant vacuum.

Irish. dutch rabbits are evil incarnate. You're doomed I tell you, DOOOOOOMED. (Good thing they're cute.)

poke the bags,, sometimes they are full of twigs.. that never bothered me because I always had a wood chip pile decomposing ..
look the yard over before you grab the bags.. see what kinds of trees they have..
lots of pines + pine needles.. not a bad thing if you are raising blue berries ..

Gorgeous day today! Lots of bunnies and birds (other than chickens) at the Neillsville Swap. Came home with a couple of fluffy tails (Dutch), cages and a run of cages with hutches attached. Also yummy Amish bread and some nice garlic to complete a row in the garden for spring. I've never planted garlic in the fall before - I've never planted garlic ever for that matter. Should be up in the spring when things warm up.
If you mulch heavy before the ground freezes it will help the garlic cloves put down roots this fall yet. Then when you see the first garlic plant poke through in spring pull the mulch back. Harvest in July...watch for the bottom two leaves to die then harvest. If you wait too long the garlic bulbs will start to fall apart and 'plant themselves'...don't ask me how I know this.

Quote: So Sunnyside said twenty pounds of feed per bird...interesting. Mine will be 8 weeks old on Wednesday and I've bought 1180 lbs for the 59 birds... 20 lbs/bird. Crazy that they have these birds engineered to that level of predictability.
I fed a wide variety of feed this time from All-Flock pellets to whole oats, cracked corn and a mixture from a local mill. They call it 'chicken supplement', it's cracked corn, soy, wheat and molasses. Also fed lots of greens from the garden and ground fall apples. All the feed together averaged .26/lb which comes to $5.25/bird. I busted my budget on bedding this time...bought baled shavings to the tune of $126. Add the price of the birds and freezer bags and I'm way over what it usually costs me to raise these.

Boyfriend bought a rheostat for the table top plucker so that's what we'll use this time...probably do them in two or three batches. Thanks for the offer of the WhizBang though...it looks like a really nice one. Excellent carpentry skills there!

Thanks @Huntress78
I really appreciate the advice!

@mophead
I've had a Dutch Chocolate in the past and he was the sweetest guy ever. But you're right about being doomed. I'm hooked on the bunns again - I wanted every one that was at the swap yesterday (good thing there weren't any chickens there to also covet!)

Packer Sunday Win to everyone...been busy cutting up the nice eight pointer I was fortunate enough to harvest....Large deer for sure....tough track job, but a memorable hunt for sure....my scale is broke and need to buy a new one...but...I'm sayin 180lbs dressed....pics to come when jennie can help with posting them. Outstanding, Big Z!! Good eating all winter! Some friends gave us a cooler full of white bass today - not as good as venison but yummy just the same.

What a nice day today! I planted 4 kinds of garlic this evening - added some bunny berries for good measure. Mosquitoes were out in droves. Sad to be getting near the end of the harvest but the freezer is completely full of home grown goodies.
