Worked on winterizing the green house today and started to organize some of the chaos inside of it. Orchids will be happy for the winter if the hubby gets the lights working properly. Had a heater malfunction last winter and lost the whole collection. Got a freeze alarm this year and need to get that set up right. Also need to get electricity out to the coop for light and heat. How insulated do you think I should make it?

it does not hurt to insulate the coop as well as your would a house.
just make sure you have plenty of air exchange above the insulation in the ceiling..
and if you do insulate, you need to provide some way to let the excess moisture out ..

If you are planning some supplemental heat, then not insulating would be a waste of heat and money..

IMHO

Not to sound like an idiot, but what do you mean by air exchange above the insulation in the ceiling. I have "rafters" (2x4s) going across the top of the coop walls and tin on top of that. If I put the insulation up to the 2x4's, there will be air exchange with the outside between the tin and the insulation. Is that what your are meaning?

Hi All!

Mophead.... looks like a raft my kids made for the river years ago! Didn't your tootsies get cold?

BigZ... congrats on the buck!

Lost a hen today. She had been squawking weird for months but acted fine. Yesterday she acted a bit mopey and today she was dead.

Sure wish they would get over this molt!

Night All.

Good job on the buck BigZ...Congrats!

Irishrovr, what varieties of garlic did you plant? I was thinking of adding a softneck type this year so I can do some braided bunches next summer. I better decide soon if I want to get it in the ground, it's suppose to start getting cold this week.

Dormer roof is on and was a very dangerous task to do alone.

Found another lightening rod buried in the ground. I will have enough parts to make a nice weathervane from these.

Got most of the boards on the outside, just have to trim out the windows and such yet.

Still need to put the front eaves on.

k
All the roof boards are gone, these I will be using as flooring for the entire house.

Super find, neighbor had this sitting in the back of his pole shed for over 10 years waiting for a home.

Some of the kitchen cabinets are in.

Back side of the kitchen.
Most of the wall insulation is in. Working on drilling holes for water lines and electric. Water lines will be running up into the loft floor as to keep them in the center of the house to have a better chance of not freezing.

You are doing an amazing job on your new place! Love it when people repurpose things. I love to work with reclaimed lumber and find new uses for things. You're going to be in there in no time!

@Sclark73

Are you sure you don't have a whole crew of folks working on your place? You've done an amazing amount of work by yourself!! Awesome, just awesome!

@Huntress78

I planted four different varieties - Silver Rose, Elephant, Italian something (with a little purple in it) and another that I can't remember (It has a snap to it when eaten raw but mild when cooked).

I got the first three at: https://seedsnow.refersion.com/c/59d4f

The last one I picked up at the Neillsville Swap
