Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi guys!!
The Wyandottes are laying great! An egg from each girl today. It is awesome to hatch in January because of the great egg production we get this time of year. But hate brooding those peanuts this time of year! I am firing up the bator very soon. Been collecting this week.
We got out tree today.

One of my Wyandottes is the crazy broody hen - I let her have 8 eggs for her broodiness - we'll see what happens. I'm getting more eggs now from the main flock. The 2 Orloff hens have been out in the garden (they live in the tractor) during the day and are laying eggs under the wood pile. I was getting one egg from each of them every day before I let them out of the tractor to free range. I'm going to have to block it off so they can't get in there.

Today was a bad day around here, the flock is fine, although something is trying to break into the night time chicken run(in a building) been smelling skunks a lot, and DH2B saw a possum maybe one or two weeks back. Haven't seen a coon maybe a half mile away across a field but its happening later than ten or even twelve. Any ideas? Thankfully we have had a board up but we have found the latch undone and or almost undone almost every day. At the very least it's flipped up daily. Kinda worried about the flock I know the run is sound but I really dont want to risk an animal massacre either.

Anyway back to why today was a bad day. If you could all please keep my family and my Grandpa in your prayers. Today it was decided that Tuesday my Grandpa will be going to live in an Alzheimer's care home and we are not taking it well. It's a local place and seems like a good one, but my great grandfather died shortly after being admitted to a similar but nicer place. My mother is a nurse and her and I lived with my grandparents for over three years to try and keep him at home, as she made him that promise when he was horrified after being diagnosed with the horrible disease. However it has become clear that it is no longer safe for him to live at home despite the many safety measures we implemented. He is also to the point that he frequently doesn't recognize even my Grandma and most of the time doesn't know where he is. My Grandpa is like a father to me as my own has fallen horribly short. Please pray for my mother's, grandmother's, and family's peace during this awful time, and please pray that we can salvage this Christmas in spite of how bleak things feel today. Thank you guys.

Prayers for your grandpa and your family! We moved my MIL from her home to Bethany Home in Waupaca almost 10 years ago. She was in assisted living until she started to wander then we had to move her to the memory unit. It was tough at first but it was the best thing we could have done for her. We set up her room with her own furniture and lots of family pictures, which helped, and we saw her almost daily at first to help with the transition. The staff at Bethany is so loving and caring, I can't say enough about them. At this point my MIL is in a "happy place" and she is kept safe, busy and well. It's a horrible disease and most often the best you can do for them is to place them among professionals who care about their comfort. All the best to you as you take this step. XOXO

Hi All!

Night All.

good day,

had 4 for 6 when I fed the chickens this morning, still time for 2 more.. 6 for 6 yesterday..
It took these hens awhile to get going, but now they are chugging right along..

goose is still on her nest.. IDK if her eggs are fresh or not, but she is happy and that is all that counts, eh?

Zeke is making himself real scarce . staying under the truck. something that I am not too happy about.. he becomes a hermit when he hides under there.. I want a little more socializing from him.. I almost had him this morning, but he spotted the leash in my hand and dove back under the truck..

the guineas are still not ready to go into the coop at night. when it gets a little colder, they will..

Early Evening to all.....just finished getting our Christmas tree up with the lights on. We will prolly finish the trimming tomorrow.
Nice tree cuties....lately we have been cutting a 5 1/2 footer and set it on the coffee table by the front window...actually works really well here with limited floor space as it is.
Nothing new here otherwise...still lovin this weather!

Annie put our tree up yesterday,, It is about 2 feet tall and has all blue lights..it sits on a small table ..
she stores it in a large black leaf bag for the rest of the year.

our last real tree was more than 30 years ago.. I put it up and nobody trimmed it.. all the kids were in high school back then,
On Christmas morning I wouldn't let any gifts be exchanged until the tree got trimmed.. the kids strung a few lights, hung a few balls and literally threw the tinsel at the tree..
the "magic of Christmas" was officially over at our house..

Thank you everyone for your condolences. That mean very much to me.

We decided to skip putting up a tree this year since the new 4 legged addition to the household is a holy terror.

This is the first year in I don't know how long that we don't have to host Christmas either.

I kinda miss not having a tree up though.

We have only been getting 2-3 eggs a day, but yesterday we got 9. Whoo hoo! The girls must be loving this weather too.
