Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

oooo...

I have a silver duckwing male that is pretty good looking and a silver duckwing female..but she is a little off in color I think so hatchery quality. Would love another female for him but am open to another pair of colors... love these little guys.I am south of Madison but head to Milwaukee alot if that helps.

Okay well I'll ask if they have any available. I have a black pair from them they're just stunning I've never shown but I know the black parents at least are supposed to be show quality. What are you thinking of for a price? I know sometimes their birds get pretty pricey. I'm not sure what all they have but I think they have bbs and maybe one other color. As I said not sure as they are actually our friend's father's birds.

I wouldn't because if they aren't sitting on them at night, the eggs will freeze & crack. I would toss some golf balls in there if you want.

I had some pretty determined broodies that wouldn't leave the nest even after taking away all her eggs. She just sat in an empty nest, silly bird. (I didn't want her hatching chicks out in Dec./Jan.)

Just had a hen go broody today. She hasn't left the box all day. Even after I took the eggs out. I just got back in from filling water and feeders and hanging a cabbage in the coop for them and she's still parked in the nesting box. Wish I had some fertile eggs to throw under her

Jim-Did youbfigure out your4x4 in your truck? Same black Chevy you got from your bro Dave? First check the actuator, that is the most common prob in them.

The chev truck is working fine,, the 4X in the blazer is the culprit this time..
I have it all figured out, I think, but I have no warm place to work on it,. I will wait for a warmer day to go at it.

I decided to go at the cable, first. the 4X in this car was seldom, if ever used.. My SonIL had it and he drove mostly in town..

I will check for vacuum line leaks, and then go after the components one at a time until I hit the right one..

If I have to replace all the components, it will cost about $200.oo..

I could take it to a fixit shop, but the labor/time $$$ would be too much..
I don't need it that badly .

wasn't there some other thing that i was supposed to let you know about ?
the chev truck kept slipping the serpentine belt. I had that problem fixed. it was a stuck pulley .

Frozen Tundra to everyone....planning my FFF for tonight, not sure yet but thinking haddock would taste good.
What color birds are they going to be hidden flock? I think you are gonna wish the coop was made bigger than you are thinking....always want more room than you are thinkin.

Glad the sun is shining at least.

Hope you have good luck with the brahmas huntress.

Stay warm and safe...bigz

good frigid friday noon.

I was just out taking care of the critters. 5/5 on the eggs today..

it is really cold, but I could still feel the warmth of the sun while walking across the yard.

it was quite nice inside the coop because of the sun shining through the big windows..

If anyone is thinking of building a coop.. make it as large as you can.
you will never have more room than you need.

put as much glass on the south side as you can. it is amazing how much warmth it will collect from the sun, even at this time of year.
make the door as wide as you can so that you can push a wheel barrow through it easily..

a concrete floor makes for easier cleaning ; and it helps to keep mice, rats and other vermin from tunneling in.

If you are going to build the walls with wooden studs, make a perimeter of at least one tier of concrete blocks.
this will help keep your wooden sill and the bottom of your studs from rotting. also keeps the bedding and litter from collecting between the studs.

suspend the nests and roosts from the walls. this will eliminate any legs from obstructing your cleaning operation, and it also helps in catching that elusive chicken if you are using a net.

It is nice to have enough extra room to store a couple of garbage cans full of feed.

If I had it to do over, I would have made my coop with an overhead garage door so that I could drive my tractor right in with the bucket to clean the floors. that would turn a 2 hour hard job into a 15 minute easy job.

me again with pictures of my water lines replacement job.
first picture: beginning at the pressure tank.

you can see the leftover 100 foot roll of 3/4" tubing leaning against the pressure tank.

second picture: showing at the right, the line from the pressure tank feeding to the lines to the kitchen, and at the left, feeding down to the water heater.

.notice that at the water heater I re-used the brass unions for future replacement of the water heater.

drop lines to the wash machine, (just to the right of the dryer vent pipe) we used 1/2" cpvc for this in order to use the cpvc solderless adapters into the brass shut-off valves.

distribution lines to the vanity (left) and the toilet .
the next picture will show the shower lines to the right of the toilet lines.

the large pvc pipes are from the sump pump.

If you are ever tempted to change out your copper to PEX, a word of caution.
If the lines are going to be exposed like these, it is very difficult to take the tubing off of the roll and straighten it.
I think if I ever did this again, I would use cpvc tubing for any straight runs that are going to be exposed.

I don't know if you can make it out, but we put in lots of wooden cross pieces and used extra pipe hangers to straighten the tubing out.

we are very happy with the overall results, though,.
