Breezy Afternoon All.... congrats on the jobs and the hatches going on.

Nothing like a paycheck in this have to pay for everything society we live in. I see the folks that didn't get their seats at the super bowl are sueing the NFL. I know i would be upset too!

Suzie is making Buns and a pumpkin pie today. Nice to have the oven going on days like today.
Lately we've been eating just home made buns. They work great for toast in the toaster oven, sandwiches, or cut inhalf for a piece of bread. Haven't missed the loaf thing at all.

One more day of the frigid crappy weather....hope it's the last below 0 stuff.

Stay safe and warm.... ~ bigzio

comooonnn goose !!! no pip yet,, still pecking though..

I transferred 3 barred rock roosters into the coop with the 15 new red star hens.. there are 30 guineas in there also.. at first I was going to put just one rooster in there, but the guineas were beating up on him so badly that I added another one for support.. then I figured, what the heck, one more would even up the sides even more.. I have only one more barred rock rooster left, and I might throw him in there too.. I just don't want to overload the hen to rooster ratio..

I made a couple of comments in an incubation thread.. there is one guy over there who gets pretty hot under the collar quite quickly, so I backed out of the discussion.. somebody bought a ho-made bator for over $300.oo.. I thought it was lot to pay for basically a small plywood box.. LOL well, he asked what everybody thought,,,

Oh BigZ I so echo your thoughts! I am going out to put the blankets BACK on the horses for our -12 with -25 wind chill tonight! I have to work at 6:30 so I guess I have an hour yet...spent some time looking at GF at Cub and Hy-vee on line this afternoon. Tomorrow I am heading to Madison to do some shopping. I made some of this Bob's Red Mill Cereal today with a few fried eggs on top and some tomatoes...what a delicious lunch! I needed some comfort food after loading up my client this morning for the hospital...then her daughter came and we cleaned a bit of her apartment. Yup--needed food!

Well-no rocking or rolling going on with the quail eggs yet...but they have been chilly....I am giving them a few extra days...meanwhile the guineas and the geese have started laying! I definately will not attempt to hatch any geese...they do just fine on their own! I might try some guinea eggs though. The ones from last year were never fertile and I have just 2 females. The rest (7) are males (I believe). Last year before I got the ones from Jim I had one girl and 4 boys! (And the eggs werent fertile!!!) I think I had lazy boys...I hope the new ones have a little more of an idea on what to do! I seem to have only 1 girl laying so far...

Still no idea why that bator is not coming up to temp. I heard it cycle off and turned it up AGAIN! I dont know how it gets turned down...the wingnut is tight. Maybe my cats are doing it at night? I just dont want the eggs to cook in the last stages!
OK--I am off to read for a while...popcorn for dinner!!! Yeah!

Terri, duct tape that seam..

Annie and I just went out and caught the rooster who sneaked out of his pen this morning.. He spent a lot of time up in the pine tree because everybody was picking on him on the ground..

It is funny out of a hundred birds of assorted species how they notice when a new one arrives..

I caught Tom holding a hen turkey down on the ground.. I wonder what he was up to ??

anybody know what a tomaru is?

From feathersite:
This Japanese bird is both a longcrower and a longtail, although it only attains tail lengths of 3 to 4 feet. A very old breed, it is usually found in the black variety.
The true Toumaru is a real gamey looking bird. A single combed, beefed up version of the Sumatra if you will. The plumage is the characteristic "beetle-green" that is common to the Minorcas, Australorps, Sumatra, etc. and more importantly the original color of the true Toumaru. The chicks hatch out colored black and white and are steady, but not fast to mature.

I thought Sandhill had accidently sent me one so I did a little research on them.

I am beginning to think that all those Asian chickens are the same thing.. only each region calls them by their local names..
Mine are called UkoKei..

there was a guy on another web site asking about them..

the guinea hen who flew the coop this morning is spending the night in the pine tree.. I was hoping she would come down and go into the chicken coop,.. but NOooo..

Thanks for the congrats guys!!

I am not sure my actual start date as of yet, they said Aurora has their orientation March 23rd, but if the Lab Sup wants me to work sooner, than I can. Which I deeply implied to her that I want to start working March 7th! So, she hasn't discussed this with me, but I am sure she will when she gets some time. I have my drug test/physical on Friday, then they will mail me the offer letter. The pay is nice, and I think it's nice BEFORE the shift differentials I will be getting!
ya.gif
I get one for working second shift, and I also get another for working weekends! Yay!

I won't be eligable for short term disability though for leave, but thats ok. I went into it thinking I wasn't going to get it, being too close and all to the due date. I was working in Chem and the phone rings and my teacher for the day answered and gave it to me saying "it's HR". They wanted me to come down and chat for a second when I got the chance. I was so scared they were going to tell me I -didn't- get it! Got down there, and they offered me the job! Yay! I was smiling so huge when I came back to the lab, everyone hugged me and my boss came out, hugged me, and said "welcome to the twisted family!" haha.

I am sooo relieved to finally be working again. Me and DH went out and had dinner to celebrate our victory. We still have a month before I get a paycheck, but man oh man it's so nice to see that light at the end of the tunnel and it's so close

Now he just has to find a job!
