Awww, I love ya too, Jim.

No, I cannot say positively if a chick died from starvation. I merely suggested that that might be one possibility, coupled with the stress of shipping, lack of warmth, dehydration, etc. Sometimes chicks just die. Adults do too. But when you have them go in quantity, then there is usually something wrong somewhere. If they were already stressed from shipping, then making their lives easier after the fact might help them have a better chance at surviving. Grinding their feed & adding vitamins/electros would be my first choice for caring for shipped chicks, along with adequate warmth. But that is just my personal preference.

Actually, I got the idea of grinding the chick feed from a poultry supply catalogs. Premier maybe? They sell industrial feed grinders for chick feed. I think it might grind 50lbs ay a time, but I'm not positive about that. Come to think of it, didn't we have this very same discussion a few years ago? Lol! :)

I can't remember what I did yesterday. and you ask about a couple of years ago ??? .

Hi All!

Ahhh, it wouldn't be spring without some sort of chick debate! LOL

I wouldn't worry about those complainers.... they probably have like 6 chickens in a fancy coop and can give them premium feed and store bought chicken toys!

Winter Wonderland here this morning...those poor young turkey hunters out with their mentors this weekend better have heaters in their tents!

I think they were out to ruffle your feathers bbp....mean people suck!

I was gonna say something like I always wanted a black chick, but never did, and figured it isn't nice to lie...

The swap in Weyauwega was busier this week. The snow held off until we were inside and all set up. Lots of kids looking for little bunnies today. One enterprising young business woman came with her family and she brought some braided strands of yarn and paper airplanes to sell. She was a very determined salesperson and cute as can be.

I wanted to bring the kids to Weyauwega BUT chicken math is already a little out of control. Have under an acre in an old informal subdivision on a cul du sac and have one tractor with 6 layers, one tractor with 5 silkies. Meat bird tractor under construction for the 11 meat birds in a kiddie pool in the garage, and 5 polish chicks I got at the Fond Du Lac swap of which I will have to get rid of anyone who gets loud. One of the polish chicks is looking great with really cute white and black coloring and really outgoing so I am afraid it is a he.....

Well, then it looks like you've mastered chicken math and are ready to tackle bunny math. I can help you out with that!

It's so very true what they say..."If you don't like the weather wait five minutes it'll change."

Since this morning we've had rain, snow, sun, whiteout blizzard with some insane wind(took down a building of ours that was mostly down to begin with) and now we're back to partial sun with a majority if clouds. Idk what to do with the flock. Do I let them out do I not? Ahhhhh! Lol gotta love WI.

ETA: less than five minutes later.... Oh look we're back to a blizzard and we're supposed to be driving up to Lake Mills today for a late family Easter.

Wife and kids are campaigning for a dog, one kid is allergic and reacts badly to oily breeds like labs which is what we had before kids, I am the lone opposition to a dog. I think we are gone too much(swim lessons, Daisies etc.) to be fair to a dog and it would be all my responsibility since I work closest to home and get home earliest. I had suggested bunnies as something lower maintenance where the other members of the family could prove they would contribute to care, but it was shot down because they want something indoors. I think the real reason it was shot down is because my wife knows I will endup being caretaker and that just strengthens my position against a dog.
