Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good evening,

kind of quiet here today.

I didn't get a lot accomplished today.

made meatloaf for supper.

The incubator is working great. I hope it keeps it up.

I have:
36 guinea eggs,
10 quail eggs ,
11 turkey eggs ,
5 goose eggs of Jordan's
2 goose eggs of mine.
--------
64 total

not bad for a guy who was not going to do any hatching at all this spring .

Jim, you keep me posted on those goose eggs; I need to make a trip south sometime anyway.

good morning,
shaping up to be another beautiful day is Wisconsin.

I still didn't find my potato hiller. How the heck someone can misplace something that big baffles me.

on the bright side. I don't know how this happened, but when I just went out to get the Sunday paper. I counted
6 guineas.. we were down to 5 for a couple of weeks after we found that pile of feathers.
either that guinea escaped from her predator and found her way back home,, or another one wandered in from somewhere in the neighborhood. and I don't know of any guineas within 5 miles of us.

@jvls1942 coolest case of chicken math ever.

Starting planting today, missed out on getting potatoes at Fleet. May just buy some grocery store ones and plop them in the dirt.

Sunny Sunday to all. Those seeds at fleet were twice the price of anywhere else around here GG.
Puter won't function.

as long as he imagined one up, I hope he imagined up a hen.
it was 4 roos to 1 hen a week ago.

those store taters are often treated to prevent sprouting.
How many are you going to plant ?
PM me before you plant any .. I might have some extra real nice seeds left ..

Annie found my hiller attachment, I tried it out, but at almost 80F it is too hot to mess with it .. I am wringing wet right now after only one hill completed.

Steve just tilled the widow neighbor's garden, agreed way too hot to do anything right now. Running to Menards for last of the coop run wood so that he can start that a bit later today. Should go quite a bit faster than the coop in it's construction, only putzy part will be the door.
Only planned to put in a 20x20 section of potatoes, not done them in quite a while, any thoughts on how many for that size area?
Glad you found your attachment...

I just finished off the last bowl of chili.  (my breakfast)

Had the potato patch all tilled by 7:30 AM today
it was cool enough to wear a light jacket, but I did work up a good sweat.  finished the last half with just a Tee shirt on. (and pants).

I have the incubator plugged in and warming up for the 30 guinea eggs.

I have room for a couple hundred more eggs if anybody wants to bring some here.

going to change the tractor battery and then maybe cut down the last 3 soft maple trees along side of the garden.
I don't need their shade nor their roots sucking the moisture out of my corn patch

I am going to bring one of the turkey porches up into the yard and do some reinforcing on the doors. I am thinking of switching the 12 pullet chicks into that pen. .

ETA:
It took the incubator only about a half hour to warm up and steady out.  I waited a couple of hours to add eggs, just to be sure.
holding at 100.22F,  the temp will go down when I add water.

had company, so nothing more got done outside.

got a notice from wisc public svc.  they are going to be trimming trees from the electric lines in our township.  Asplundh is doing it.  Hopefully I can get a load or two of wood chips.   I have room for 100 loads if they want to dump them here.  a farmer close to Wausau had a lot of loads dumped, then after a year or two he was selling "compost".  he died a year or so ago, so that won't happen again.

Well Jim if you lived closer I would sure take you up on that :) we have over 12 dozen eggs waiting to be set right now after our lf rooster got taken week before last by that predator! DH2B is building another incubator as we speak and we have about 2 dozen eggs in lockdown right now that will clear up a lot more space too. Hurry up and get out little ones!

Friday I heard from the teacher we gave eggs to for her to hatch with her kindergarten class. :) They got 14/18 chicks and it's awesome to see! Our incubator has been much more steady and cooperative since DH2B Macgyver-ed the computer fan in after realizing the one that came in the incubator stopped working.
