Well, what did I do to my garden. Planted it May 30. Like everyone up here says cause its Wi. Seems everyone on this site is getting way more produce tha n I am. Have picked a handful of peas, peas are done blooming. And they were tougher than shoe leather. Got a mess of beans, few blooms on them. Pulled 6 5-6" cukes and 4 cherry tomatoes. How come everyone else is hauling in good stuff?

Gardening is a labor of love and gained knowhow from years of failure, and the willing to do better every year from ones efforts....it's way way more than a simple seed in the soil. Sounds like your peas were overgrown, and all of us here are willing to help you grow a lot of produce....I don't post all I harvest....I only mention some stuff....I've enjoyed a lot, and it was all because of hands on in the dirt most days. It's never simple as it sounds, but keep trying for better results. Don't forget the Kluth farm near you for a bounty of harvest for a reasonable price....while the berries are done as well as the peas, they prolly have beans yet......sometimes buying fresh produce is a great deal too, with only the effort of picking the harvest.

good evening,
i have had some real disappointing results many times with my gardening,
Annie and I learned how to garden together. there was nobody to show us how.
lots of reading and experimenting, and just when you think you have a handle on it, you get too old to do it anymore.
every year I am planning next year even before we start harvesting.
our first garden in wisconsin was just potatoes.. we planted about a half acre of them. kept them weeded, didn't know anything about hilling.. the plants were all up about 10 inches tall. no blossoms , yet.. 1967 . August 10, got a killing frost.
a lot of the potatoes didn't die, but on the next night, another killing frost. not a single plant survived.

I quit planting peas. never got more than a couple of meals of them.. more work than they are worth.

several strawberry patches came and went.. never could keep the weeds away ..

had a nice row of asparagus, about 50 feet long. really did good for a couple of years. made the mistake of planting black walnut trees too close. today there is not a single asparagus plant left..

planted rows of apple trees. in all, I think we went through about 50 trees in all.. I don't think there is a rodent or four legged animal that doesn't eat apple trees. we have one tree that planted itself from a cast away apple core. that's all..

this year the tomatoes are not doing just that great. I never had problems with tomatoes before.. *** ?

woke up at 6:3o to the sound of rain and thunder.
by 7:10 the thunder was past us and heading toward Corey in Antigo..

this rain and the forecast heat should really make things grow. especially the lawns.. (and weeds in the garden)

I can't really do anything outside, so I think I will go listen to the wise men at the restaurant . they have all the answers to all the world's problems..

Boy it blew and rained like no other for about 20 minutes. It seems like the good storms always break up around the Antigo area. Mowing the lawn is gonna be slow going tomorrow. It's was too long Monday already so I can imagine what it's gonna be like tomorrow afternoon. Had a little hawk encounter Tuesday evening with one of my girls. I heard a bloody murder scream and went running in my underbritches out to the coop and scared the hawk off. My hen only got a small cut on her leg. Musta scared the bejeebers out of all 6 of them because no one even left the coop yesterday. Maybe they'll venture back out today once the weather settles. It's a shame a guy can't take Hawks out, they're overly plentiful and kill way too much IMO

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I got one of those Matis tillers, it works great and my garden is pretty much weed free. Seems like nothing is making. Have 4 broccoli plants and see nothing on them. Same with cauliflower. Peppers are doing good along with tomatoes. I guess it will be alot of salsa.

Well I guess I'm going to have chickens again whether I want to or not. A young girl at work ordered me some chicks "for my birthday". So I guess I'm going to spend the next couple of days in this delightful heat wave repairing my coop and setting up a brooder.

Now how to explain politely to my well-meaning young coworker that ANIMALS AREN'T PRESENTS.
