Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Fish Fry Friday to everyone..hope you had a great day! Picked 3 heaping ice cream pails of green beans today....regardless of the weather the show must go on. We have them snipped and in the fridge for freezing tomorrow. I just had to stick them on the scale... It was a true 5 lbs and is plenty here for the first pick...I really shortened up the row compared to what I use to grow. I'm trying to make things more manageable at harvest time.
I still prefer the slenderette variety from sandhill....white seeds make better beans than those other dark colored bean seeds that most everyone grows.

good morning,
not starting out to be a good day. I just knocked my full mug of coffee off of my table . didn't break the mug, but did a black coffee shampoo on the carpet.
Like it's not humid enough in here.

going to take the carb off of something today, either the mantis tiller or the mccullough weed whacker.
I have only one carb rebuild kit. I think the weed whacker is the highest priority .
it has a brush cutting blade on it. and I have a lot of brush I want to get rid of at one end of the nut trees

Annie accidentally left the sliding door open a little bit and all the baby guineas got out. only got one left.
don't ask me how she did that, and I am not stupid enough to ask her that question.

ETA:
everybody must be outside taking advantage of the early morning coolness..

I put a new diaphragm in the McCullough this morning, it starts and runs like new.
I guess now I will have to order another carb rebuild kit for the Murray.

checked the garden just now. first time I went out there for a week.

everything has grown double and tripple. the corn is tasseled, picked 3 ripe tomatoes, the beets are enormous, there are baby beans on the bushes and there are hardly any potato bugs.

I tied the tomato plants up.

and now I think I am done working for today.. maybe after the sun passes, I might go out just before dark and putz around a bit ..

we plant the white beans, too..
I picked one this morning and ate it.. in a couple of days we should be up to our eyeballs in beans.

you're on the right track with the smaller garden, you can take better care of it, and the yields should increase...

Hey Wisconson friends! Quick question. I found out I have a brahma rooster, in my flock of what I hoped was all hens. We live in the racine area and my husband says we cant keep to rooster. Any ideas what to do. I would hope to give it to someone who wouldnt kill it. Any ideas? Maybe incan convince him to keep it :D.. doubtful though

I didn't shrink the garden any but this year I put a walk way down the center and did my rows in the other direction. It is going crazy. I grow my tomatoes really close so that they make a wall. I have 2 rows and right now I can hide between them standing up. They are loaded with fruit too. I plant pole beans. Don't remember the name at the moment but they are a French style. The can get to be a foot long and still tender as can be. Shortened that row by half from last year and don't regret it. Still picking about 3 gallons every 2 or 3 days. Picked about 5 gallons of beets for family and you can't even tell I went through the rows. Cabbages are about a foot across. Picked around 10 gallons of cukes in the last week. Tomatoes are just starting to ripen. Picked the second crop of broccoli already as well. Cauliflower are starting to make heads and if anyone needs hot peppers let me know!

Just finished up the first game of my nephews baseball tournament. Holy smokes is it balmy out there. They play a double header for their second and third game today starting at 4. It's too darn hot for them to be playing baseball on a day like today.

this is Ollie with his custom built forks .
I made these forks for carrying around the guinea pens and ginseng drying racks...

good afternoon,

I hopped on Ollie and pushed my wood chip piles all together and made them as high as Ollie could reach. there is a lot of steam coming out of them already,.

when I got done with that, I went and pushed on some old stumps that are rotting away.. some birch and some poplar.
all I want to do with them is make them flush to the ground so that I can mow over them instead of around them.
