Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

progress report: this is one of the elderberry scions.
all of the next pictures will be grapes.
the one with the ruler is one that rooted in water and
then I transplanted it into a dirt pot
the rest were started in dirt right off the bat.

.

.

They are looking great!

yes, I think so too..
that transplanted one had just roots and a tiny bud on it when I transplanted it.

I don't know what kind of roots the dirted ones have, but I imagine they are at least as nice as the water one was.

In the future, I think I would start them all off in water.
that way you know for sure that they are forming roots.
the roots in water are very soft and easily break off.
but if you are careful, you can transplant them quite
easily.

I am going to a local composting yard tomorrow to pick up a bag of bovine compost. $8.oo for a cubic foot .
that will be enough for a 2ft x 2ft box @ 3" deep.
I think I will build a box especially for this project.
I already have some maturish white button shrooms I will use for spores.
I have nothing to lose. I can always use the compost in the garden after the mushrooms either grow or flop..

Looks great Jim!

BigZ, if you need firewood we have a pile we need to get rid of. Not sure what the DH wants to charge for it though.

Last day on the job tomorrow; looking forward to it. I feel badly for the employees here, as it feels like they are all passengers on a doomed ship...... I hope whoever purchases this place cleans house.

Good Luck with your future Job bl4, and the whole moving thing. Thanks for the firewood offer, but I have plenty to work with here. I'm almost 3 years ahead on the pile now.

Nice job with the scions Jim! I prefer wild grapes for our gourmet jelly here. I should try those, but did some research and not sure it's the best specimen to attempt...although, their is nothing to lose in trying, eh!

If the other guy received the ticket Jim, then it should be a no brainer as to who has to pay? What's to contest....I don't think he has a leg to stand on if he has the ticket.

Stay Safe..bigz

I mentioned the ticket to mrs Brown of Geico. she just brushed it aside and said that they were contesting the
"yellow light" issue.

That's actually kinda funny in a way....the ticket assumes the blame period...contest what ever color you want...you lose...just pay at this window! Don't let them snow you...time to get angry with them.....pay now or pay more if I get my Lawyer involved...then your gonna pay his fees also! That's the problem they face, in my opinion.

sitting in the waiting room while the ol ball n chain gets her wisdom teeth hacked out. I'm glad to be here and not in there.

good winter strikes again, morning,

Corey, you keep an eye on her. don't let her suck on the gapping holes left behind. I had "dry socket" once. not a pleasant thing. It passes after a day or so, but it is as bad as a toothache while it is there..

I am going to pull some lumber out of the storage truck to build a mushroom "farm" box. pictures will follow.

I love the mushroom farm box idea, @jvls1942 ! I may have to talk DH into growing 'shrooms this summer in the concrete "bunker" on the farmstead. We are going to try to make the necessary adjustments to make it a working root cellar by next winter. That probably means by winter of 2018 ... so many projects for this summer already.
He was talking about starting some mushroom logs this summer - a co-worker was talking about how his son grew mushrooms and sold them to a lot of the restaurants in the area. I suggested to do it behind the machine shed. The morning dew will drip onto them in the morning and they are on the north side of the building - so a nice shaded area. I talked about growing mushrooms about 2 years ago when we moved onto the place, but he felt at that time that it was a stupid idea.
