Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Went out and checked on the mushroom logs and I think you could have stood outside and watched them grow last night. They are huge compared to last night. Of course you would have given up your entire blood supply if you had. The skeets are INSANE.

We were hammered by the storm again last night and early this morning....mostly just thunder, lightning and rain, with the hail hitting against the bed room windows...hope my maters and peppers and cabbage and broccoli are ok. I haven't made the lope out there yet.
Thanks for the kind words Jim....yep sympathy cards by the box are a must it seems.

Hi all,
I hope you don't mind if I join in here.
I'm in Green county, all the way south and a little west in the state.
I'm hoping there's some folks on here not too far away.
I'm new to chickens (mixed flock of 30 at just over 5 weeks old) and I love it!
This site is great and I've learned a ton so far. I'd really like to know some people in real life with real life chicken experience though.
Thanks,
jean

well, then, you are at the right place.
and your timing is perfect.
the weekend after Memorial weekend we are having our annual bash.
people from the cheese heads come from all over wisconsin to participate.

it starts on Friday afternoon and runs to about noon on Sunday.

I had read about that. I was thinking it was later in the summer. One of my kiddos graduates from high school that weekend, so I won't be able to get to this one, but I'll keep an eye out for other get together/outings and try to make it then.
Thanks!

we just had two hard rain storms, back to back. our electric power went out at 2:3o and came back on at 4:25.
I used the time for a nap.

just before the first rain came, I planted a pound of peas. I hope I don't find them in a pile at the end of the row.. with all this rain, they should sprout in about 3 days.

I couldn't use the push planter because the dirt was too muddy, so I just hand tossed the seeds and kind of raked them in..

I have a nice pile of used cedar siding that I ripped off of the house last summer. I am going to make a couple of small planting boxes with some of them..

I was going to go pick up a load of compost, but with all this rain, it will be too wet and heavy to shovel off of the truck..

We got hit by the same round of storms but an hour or so behind you. Hope you are staying safe! You should be getting hit with round three right about now. I had, operative word here "had" bean seeds in the ground planted before last night's deluge. Not bothering to put them back into the ground until tomorrow.
No other damage from last night but a friend's pontoon boat got squashed when his neighbor's tree fell on it. Oh, we did have some peripheral damage. A bear decided to take advantage of the storm cover and try to get into our run. Didn't make it but put a nice large "crimp" in our reinforced fencing.

Welcome aboard! I can't be too far away from you I am in Grant county near Richland Center. I have a mixed flock of around 30.

I planted my seeds a week ago this past Monday. Everything is up. My radish broke through in about 3 days but even the beets and kohlrabi are up. Bought the plants today and will be putting them in tomorrow. My new babies are getting along great with the elders. Thanks for the advice on introducing them!

I was about a hour behind you too Jim. Seems like the brunt of it always quits before antigo. I'm okay with that tho. Kicking around the idea of ordering some chicks from a hatchery. Everyone's sold out of blue laced red Wyandottes tho so I'd get everything but for this year.
