Picked up my chickies at 7:30 this morning. I think the postmaster was as excited when she called as I was! She was waiting for me when I got there to tell me she had already peeked and all the chicks looked good. That was an understatement! These are the healthiest, happiest, calmest shipped chicks I've ever gotten. They settled right down and started eating and drinking like little fluffy piggies as soon as I got them into the brooder. Within minutes they were chirping and trilling quietly and within the hour they were happily falling asleep standing up under the Brinsea or face first in the food dish. Markings, coloring, etc. will have to be judged later, but right now I am 100% sold on Hoover's Hatchery. I'll take lots of pics tomorrow but today, I just want them to relax, de-stress and do what chicks do best.
We've had more than one of the old growth pines and tamaracks on our property struck, and in some cases, blown apart over the years but never had any damage done to the buildings or electrical tho we did have one strike so close the entire screen on the tv turned a weird pink and screwed up the hd on the satellite receiver. I am so sorry for all the damage, I hope no wiring is burnt past the breaker box. Poles and/or transformers are hit in our area so often most folks have their BB's specially mounted and reinforced. The power company started working last year putting all the lines underground (ours from the road already are). We were listed as the worst for power outages in the entire state (aren't we special?) so they actually got a grant to fix the problem.
