Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good Revieved Morning All! Bigz I'm surprised at you not knowing Blue Bullets. Good thing Jim has your back! Slept for 10 hours MOL last night and feel a whole lot better this morning. Jim it's nice to have experience in dealing with Johnny law so many make simple mistakes just giving them an excuse to pull you over. amyable cool beans on meeting Bennett and his wife. fm congrats on all the babies! And we're going through the sinus crap too. But on the down hill side now. H&R I remember as a little kid my Aunt and Uncle making syrup up on a ridge at the farm in a cut in half 55 gal drum. Spent the night up on the ridge boiling it down and sleeping by the fire and getting an occasional cup of warm sap. Going to find out how deep the snow is out back this morning, need to get some of the pile brought in to keep the house warm. Hope it's dry enough. Have enough dry stuff left to mix it in. Then back into the bathroom. Framing up for the counter top and the wall behind it today. Loving the warmer temps! 30* HA! Next fall that'll be arctic like. Enjoy your day!

..............jiminwisc...........

Anyone else know if there will be any OEGBs there?

I'll be there, yes there is normally OEGB there, but you never know. lots of chicks.

Hi all! Yes FM I had one last year too. Kill one of my quails. But he got what was coming to him. So just set my eggs, was going to last night but I found my favortie roo sitting on the coop floor last night. We were of course gone and when I got back that's how I found him. He passed about 130 this morning. So this is a day, I would rather forget. I love my Bruno. He was probably the only chicken I will be crushed by lossing. The thing that makes me so mad is that I don't even know what was wrong with him. Im so sad. However for some reason I left all the eggs I collected on the counter because we were flying out the door, so now I'm setting them to and hoping for a bruno 2. He is the one in my avatar and of course I have a picture of only him up in the house too. Hope you guys have a better day.

Good Morning!

Eggs arrived yesterday - in perfect shape. Sitting on the counter, next to the 'bator waiting until this evening before they go in.

I mounted a small computer fan in the bator - it actually brought the temps up quite a bit - which doesn't make sense, so I think I may bumped the thermostat while I was doing the install. I've got the temps back down to 99-100 and it's stayed there since I went to bed last night - So (fingers crossed) - Eggs will start cooking tonight. I'm pretty stoked. This is my first time hatching eggs.

Heading over to a friends house to start "disassembling" over 2000' (probably more) of a 4' high 1"X2" galvanized wire fence. He also has a couple of pretty big 4' rolls of chicken wire he said I could have.

The same friend is hooking me up with 117 rough cut Cedar 2X4's as well. However, I'll have to wait for warmer weather to get the wood because they have been stacked outside, uncovered and are basically all frozen together. The wood came off an old shed he tore down. With the exception of a "nail pulling day" - they are in pretty good shape. Nice sturdy true 2X4's too - not the 1.5 X 3.5 studs you buy. I'm going to use the 2X4's, in conjunction with some 8' 4-6" round cedar fence posts to frame in a partially covered run. I'm still not 100% sure on the size of the run - at a minimum it's gonna be 10'X24' - I'll figure out final dimensions once I see what I can "collect" for free.. LOL

The coop itself is 16' X 8'. I built it by partitioning off the back inside an existing 16' X 36" Shed w/ concrete slab. I framed in an old screen door for access. I'd debating whether to just throw some wire up or actually close it in with plywood. The wire would help with ventilation but the plywood would keep them a lot warmer in the winter.... decisions, decisions.... things to ponder over a beer or two!

Have a great Saturday everyone!

Thanks for the info jvls.... Looks like a duck brooder needs to be constructed then. And maybe one with a little "pool" for them. I will let the boyz know about spending time with them, as well as locking them up every night. They will roost with the chickens in their coop then? Or is it just smarter to build them their own?

Oh Beckyschicks that just SUCKS!!!

with the eggs and hopfully you will get a bruno 2

got about 1" of snow over night into this am so DH is out taking care of removing snow and the kids and I will be cleaning the baby chick pens- we've got 2 wire dog crates set up to hold 2 of the 3 batches we've hatched since Jan 1st. About 34 chicks so far, with 5 eggs in the bator due to hatch March 10th. Have to go on Monday to pick up 8- day old Turkeys, that the kids will be raising for 4-H again this year.

Have a good day, hopefully we will get some sunshine today!

Good morning! AWWW--so sorry about Bruno Becky! Such a cute guy. Was he very old? It is disheartening when they just go down so quick and you have no idea...of course it is always the favorites that go too! You will hatch another one. It worked for DrH--we will all be rooting for your eggs!
I heard the plow go but early this morning...didnt realize that our rain had turned to snow during the night. It is warm and melty out there now though. I am glad cause I dont want to stand and hold horses in freezing weather and my brat daughter went back to school last night instead of coming home!

That'll teach her! (I wish)
Seeing as I have to wait for the vet today (not sure where I am in the order) I guess I will do catch up stuff around here. I HAVE to get those snowflake dishes out of the cupboards! The seed packet ones are overdue to go in! I love changing my dishes!

It's the little things hey?
Have a fantastic day! Terri O

He was a year and a half. I got them all in August of 09. So not very old. I let the others out this morning and they look alittle lost. Bruno would take everyone to find food. Now it's up to Rupert and I don't have much faith in him. Thanks for all the hugs. It just really sucks! Hopefully I will get a Bru2. I like that DrHa. I think that will be his name. I knew you would understand and I hope I have your luck. Havent told kids yet, but will have to soon.

Good Sat Morning All.... sorry about Bruno Becky... hope you can hatch Bruno2... I know that really sucks! Wish I could fix it for you. I still can't delete Bigzio from my avatar.

Thanks Jim for having my back! I won't forget, I hope!

Amy, that's just awesome about Edgar. He is my favorite Packers coach. For folks that didn't know....he was the runnings back coach, but was promoted to the receivers coach after the super bowl when that coach left the pack for the cowboys. Congrats to Edgar for his promotion....well deserved in my opinion.

Tomski....good luck with the hatch. Did you get any eggs from Dave?

Gonna trim a few trees today. Trying to get that done while they are dormant yet.

Later.... ~ bigzio
