Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Geez this is a good example of how with it I've been on here. Just noticed your 4 yr anni banner Bigz. Congrats!!!! Let me tell you there's still plenty of snow in the woods yet. Had to do a lot of plowing to get to the wood pile. Aw darn it.

And as I suspected had to pound every piece loose from the melting and freezing. Gonna have to bring in a bunch to get the ice off of it but first have to make room. The back porch seems to have a lot of tools and stuff in it for some reason.

:flGot all 31! The last one to hatch was from my White Frizzle. She's my smallest chicken and has the smallest eggs. And I put that egg in last and a couple days after the others. So I was expeciting to go later anyway. So the baby is a White Frizzle and Barred Cochin Bantam mix. Very cute and VERY little. Mostly blue with a white spot on it's head. It's a 1/4 of the size of most of the others. A little bigger than BCC's Serama baby. Hopefully I'll get time to get pics for you all.

Cleaned and re-filled the bator. 21 more days!

looks like I am the last one up today..

lots to comment about, but I would have to scroll for ever to recollect it all.. so : sorry for your loss, congrats on whatever it is that you (your name here) did or are going to do.. Thank you, and you're welcome.. Annie changes the table cloth to suit every holiday and season.. did i miss anything ??

Annie brought me an egg from the Okukei hen.. Ken has this theory that he can tell a fertile egg just by looking at it.. If it is BIG it is fertile.. I showed him the Okukei egg, It is about the size of a guinea or banty egg.. He laughd and said, "I guess nobody wanted anything to do with her"..LOL I suspect it is fertile, just don't know who the father is..

I moved the new duck in with the two trios of ducks.. she is the one who laid an unfertile egg.. let me inform you, her eggs will be fertile from now on, beginning 20 seconds after meeting her new playmates..

later,,,,,,,,,,,,jiminwisc..........

I have a question for my all knowing chicken friends
hu.gif
My DD29 is here visiting with me today and she wants me to get some Polish Chickens. We would like to know where to get some chicks not to far from here ( Green Bay area ) ???? If any of you have them I would be willing to drive to get them. Thanks Sue

DA, I would NOT provide them with a pool until they have some feathers. Ducklings are normally waterproofed by mom rubbing her oil onto their downy fluff; without mom they will become waterlogged, cold and if the pool is too deep they will drown. Supervised swims one in a while are OK of course!

Ducks don't roost either, they will sleep on the floor.

Who wanted my buff call female???? I am headed south tomorrow and we could meet along the way if it works out.

the problem with Poilish is they get plucked, most of the time the headdress get pluck if you have them in a mixed flock, I've even seen them plucked so bad that the skull is exposed. as for laying the standard one I've had in the past are eather real good or very baf no in between, but those where mine. buff laced not so good, pure black very good, not the black with a white top

It was a last minute thing otherwise I would of went along. My daughter wants to see a zebra, I told her probably no zebras at the circus and she was disappointed. I'm kinda looking foward to fondie next weekend. Just to look!!

ya right!! Seen my first sandhill crane yesterday morn. Hope spring is comming this cold wind is driving me nuts. Mike

Susie- I have one polish and she is great. I got her last year at the fondy swap. She doesn't get picked on and hasn't lost any of her top hat from being picked on. I did clip her feathers around her eyes to help her see better and also because they kept getting wet when she drank this winter and then would freeze. I have a rubber bowl for water in the winter. She is a great layer too. One of the few that lay everyday. Also she isn't as flighty as people say polishes can be. Will let my DD4 pick her up and carry her around. Had I not set so many eggs this morning I would have gotten a couple more at the swap next weekend. Hope this helps and here is a pic of her.

muscovy ducks do roost.. they will/can sleep on the floor, but prefer to roost..

I let my baby ducks swim if it is warm enough.. None of them have mothers, other than me. they only become waterloged if they cannot get out of the water.. I use a shallow pan that they can easily run in and out of.. about 3 inches deep.. they don't have to actually swim.. they are happy to just stand and dip.. and I don't supply the pan until I can put it on the ground outside because of the water mess..
