Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

My Salmon Favarolles are taking baby steps at coming outside. I coaxed them out with some scratch today; they were out of the coop for about 10 minutes. Jumping around a flapping for a bit, then back inside.

With lows in the 20's possible tonight I closed the windows since my hens are in a hard molt. Poor birds don't have many feathers to keep the chill off. I need to butcher those young cockerels too....maybe the young pullets would start laying then. The boys are a pia for them I'm sure. No snow here today...thank goodness.

The chickens said he!! No about the outdoors today..... took the geese a bit to come out. I had to clean the snow out of the pool before they would use it. Stinkers.....

I think we ended up with at least 6” today.

bl4, did you get the goose hut done ?
we did not get any snow. just cold, cold, cold.
I hope this is not an indication of things to come.
still didn't get Ollie into the garage, but we are getting closer. I keep getting side tracked from the cleaning and tossing.
did fill another dumpster. It was so heavy I was afraid the garbage man would refuse to take it. but he did.. going to have to tip him one of these days..

Just finished cutting a small load of wood and tossed it in the basement. I prolly have 10 cords down there now...that should get me through 2 1/2 months for sure, depends how cold it's going to be. Cord per week is easy to burn during the cold months.

Yup Jim, the goose house is all finished. We assembled the entire thing in one day, the weekend before we cut down the rooster population. It is a 6x8 plastic shed, with skylights and windows on the doors. I put a fresh layer of straw down for them on Thursday after it quit snowing, they were so happy with fresh bedding that when I put them in for the evening they just sat down right away. Goofy birds....

The snow has almost completely melted, much to the delight of the chickens.

Bl4, it is satisfying when the geese show their appreciation of your efforts, eh ?
WE had snow showers yesterday. ended with about a quarter of an inch. it is all melted .
I am fine with the ground freezing. Remember last year when we had freezing rain ? the ice lasted all winter. we don't need that, winter is enough.
Brent, are you counting face cords ? or
4 x 4 x 8 cords ??
.jiminwisc.........

I'm cutting face cords Jim. I usually burn between 15 and 20 for the whole heating season. When we get close to Spring the 3 or 4 cords that you think will be leftover, always seems to get burned.….

That's a lot of work, Brent.
Today we drove past the log cabin on our way into town. It is for sale. $500,ooo.oo
they have one of those outside wood burners in the front yard. It will take 4 ft logs. That is no stove for an old man. I can't picture myself pitching logs into a hole
3 feet above the ground..
I got Ollie backed into the garage today.
plenty of room to walk around him..
Went to King Buffet Chinese, to celebrate and reward ourselves..
