Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Yep, spot on wyo with the information.
Lucky I was by the sliding back door when a Red Tail Hawk pounced on one of my hens...was able to scare it off the hen that it had pinned to the ground. Made a few circles and didn't want to leave..... my presence finally convinced the huge bird to leave. They remained hiding until time to go to roost. Dang hawks.....all the extra cover we have here for the birds made a big difference today....lucky hen today.

@wyoDreamer

Life never treats me well, but I always come back stronger than the last time. Glad to be back. I work 2 full time jobs and slowly backing off the 3rd shift job. Need time to take care of family, fix needed stuff on trailer I bought (still waiting for the title), and try to find time for me.

Zombie Chick (the one I did bring back to life) is starting to lay eggs again. Pixie, is being a brat and started eating her eggs before I can get to them. Flash is also doing well

I have golf balls in the nests to prevent that. I painted a few a dark brown so they would not be able to readily determine what was an egg and what was a ball. Curtains over the boxes helps too. Less light to see what to peck at.

Time for a marker and leave couple in the nesting boxes or some fake eggs. I have to laugh when I read your post. Been there. I was for awhile crawling in the calf pen (no calfs) get on hands and knees to get the eggs from under the feed bunk.
Leave it to the chickens to make it difficult at times.

Just got rid of 8 chickens for 8 dollars apiece, getting the flock down to size for winter.
Sweet corn is selling pretty good.

The chickens breaking eating eggs on purpose or the shells getting little thin and they break when getting walked on y the other chickens?

I just put out some more calcium I was starting to get broken eggs. I had not put it out for awhile. I also have some new layers coming online soon.

Batch #3 of the meaties has arrived! This group will be outdoors from day 1. I don’t want to brood in the house any longer if I don’t have to.

ALL my Lav Orps are Roos...... just my luck. My daughters SIL is going to take a few Roos as she has zero at the moment..... when this batch of meaties is ready to be butchered we will take care of all the extras too.

Speaking of Roos; I have a new friend. We have one Roo that the rest beat the snot out of. He hangs out by the house, but he is by himself. I think I’ll start bringing the silky out with him so he is not completely alone. I don’t think his vision is very good. His eyes are clear but they bulge a bit more than I think they should....... no other issues with him other than he is a salmon fav mutt. Not sure what would cause a vision issue like this other than chicken glaucoma?

Otherwise, not much happening. Dogs are growing like weeds....... 😊

Good to read everyone is doing well. We just finished freezing the last of our corn crop. The deer and coons enjoyed their share. I'm glad I planted enough for all.
Gave bushels of tomatoes away....everyone enjoyed them, and I enjoy sharing the harvest.....green bell peppers were also given away after we were done freezing stuffed peppers for Winter. My garden was amazing this year and one for the record books.....green beans....oh my gosh, the slendertte variety from sandhill once again was stellar and still producing. Plenty of harvest to go with beets and Winter squash yet.....
