Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Cleaned and moved the coop today…. 😵 thankless job but necessary. We had the chickens free ranging all over the farm and 4 big dogs running around age range 5 years to 6 months…. And all behaved quite well for dogs unaccustomed to chickens walking and running around. A few reprimands and that was it. The 6 month old Choc lab was the worst of the bunch, but also expected.

I cleaned the coop the other day. Then burnt all the bedding to put in the garden, as we cant do compost piles where we live. Our chocolate lab always acted out, although we didnt have chickens or any birds, he was always getting himself into something.

what kind of backward community do you live in?
no composting ? is it a gated community ?
If you have a garden, bury the bedding, etc.
it is called trench composting. nobody will
know the difference.

A village with tons of rules..... One neighbor is the problem she turns us in for everything except for burning, we will be moving our garden next year so i can use the bedding.

We got our eggs from Merton Feed Company. They are all Black Sex Link and are all darker brown eggs so they are tricky to candle. I tried candling at the 7 day mark but there were too many that were iffy so its suggested I hold off and candle later. I'll just try to make sure none of them are rotting or weeping.
I got my chicks from Merton Feed Co about a month ago. Love that place!

Dumb question, why not just take the old bedding and till it in the garden, or throw it over the garden till you till it in.
Technically that is not a compost pile.
