Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Well not as much corn to pick as I put more spacing in, bigger ears,, some planter issues so I have some skip in some areas.. sales are good though, many many return customers..One lady said she been driving past last couple weeks wondering when I would show up. Another guy pulls up today, whoa your here I have been waiting since september for you to come back......lol ............little more than 5/8 acre (-10 percent maybe 15 percent planter issue..grrr) and bout picked out 4 days. Now clean up and couple orders for Monday.

I'm sure my chickens are enjoying this cool weather. I know I am in fact, I wore sweatshirt when I mowed today shockingly.
Sweet corn season and morel mushroom seasons, are two seasons people eagerly wait for around here!
After talking with TOR, I'm gonna start asking the farmers around here that sell sweet corn what varieties they plant? Then I'll know which ones I wanna go back for.

Huitlacoche / Corn Smut is edible, learn something new, seen someone selling it on facebook I always take them and throw them

What's the going price per dozen this year TOR?
The highway farm market is $8.50 and local farmer is
selling for $6.00 per dozen.
Beauty of a day outside today for sure.
Hope to allow the hens out of the pen later this week in hopes that the foxes will leave them alone. They are not a happy flock cooped up.

Stay Safe ... bigz

Im at 6 went up a buck, . 50 cents ear. some people came back for more and my wife made about 25 in tips today
facebook marketplace is 3 bucks to 8 bucks, that is around WI and into Iowa.
The Kandy Korn Trucks from MN in Lacrosse week ago was 7 for 6 ears and 9 for 14.Guess he has dropped his price since so I have been told.
Customer came by yesterday said he bought some Kandy Korn from the truck went home ate 3 ears and went back and gave it back to him for refund, wanted to see ear of my corn before he bought any. A differnt person said he bought some kandy Korn week or so ago and it looked like it was picked the week before:eek:. he also wanted me to show a ear.
If I were to goto la Crosse and rent something to sell I would have to go 7 maybe more the extra cost , insurance, trusting employee with lots money, lot of other businesses things which I don't have without detail.
I guess I will keep the Kiss method.
Keep It Simple and Stupid.
started 930 bout 130 or so sold out 60 plus dozen and had people pulling up as we were tearing down. Also I think I posted a picture before cars drive up roll down their window like a drive thru. I may have the only sweet corn drive thru in the state. really helps the elders, handicapped, momma with the 3 kids in the back seat.
Anyway we just a small pimple on the world of sweet corn, but 60 doz short time is good for us,

May I ask what a Cheesehead is?

Dairy is a major industry in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Being known for its dairy production, the state is often called "America's Dairyland." The industry is prominent in official state symbols—being displayed on the state's license plates, state's slogan, and on the state quarter.

Wisconsin at one time had the most Dairies in the USA,
As of 2018, Wisconsin ranks second in the United States in dairy production, with over 7000 dairy farms that produce 2.44 billion pounds

As of 2020, Wisconsin produces 26% of all cheese in the US, totaling 3.39 billion pounds (1.54×109 kg) of cheese in the last year.

The nickname "cheesehead" is used in the United States to refer to people from Wisconsin or fans of the Green Bay Packers football team. The term may have originated after World War II when Illinoisans ( State illinois) began calling Wisconsinites "cheeseheads" as a derogatory term to mock their perceived obsession with cheese. The term may also have originated from a schoolyard insult used to call someone dense or an idiot. However, the term has since become a badge of honor that Wisconsin natives proudly own. It has become an integral part of Wisconsin sports culture, and Green Bay Packers fans often wear wedge-shaped foam "cheesehead" hats that are orange with holes that resemble Swiss cheese.
