I'm addressing my city's council this afternoon about changing an ordinance forbidding backyard chickens. Currently the Wisconsin Assembly bill, AB42 is in committee and had a public hearing on the 19th where seven citizens spoke in favor of the bill to restrict local governments from banning up to four backyard chickens. Zero spoke against the bill at the public meeting. If you are in Wisconsin please contact your state senator and assembly person and encourage them to sign on as sponsors on this bill. I did so a month ago and my Assembly Rep has now signed on as supporting the bill.

Thanks, Tim

Hello All! Looks like everyone is slowly getting through this crazy spring. We have some snow left, but yet everything is VERY soggy. Would love to let the ducks and geese roam the yard but the HOA (my other half) would not appreciate the lawn being tore up.

My issue at the moment is my male goose. Rusty is 2-3 years old and I adore him. I got him from a little old lady last summer. He "was" so sweet up until about a month ago. I understand he is protecting his lovely wife and is a bit moody but WOW! I mean WOW!!! HE IS MEAN! He is so loud and bullies EVERYONE AND ANYTHING. I feel sorry for his wife to have to listen to him all day. He got me the other night good. I filled one kiddie pool and he was enjoying himself bathing. I was filling the other pool with my back to him. (dumb, I know) And he snuck up on me like a ninja, got a hold of the back of my leg and did NOT let go. I literally had to pry his beak open to get him to let go and he was not done with me. I swear he was growling when he had my leg. This honk-growl I have never heard before. The crazy eyes were wide open, the honk sirens were blaring and he was on a mission to attack. I understand this this nature but it breaks my heart for him to be this angry all the time. It is hard not to take this personal. He reminds me of a toddler that is having tantrums all the time for nothing. I also cannot tell what triggers it. Some times of the day, at my lunch- he is good. Mornings and night...WATCH OUT!

If anything, thanks for reading.

Frustrated,
Renee

Is the the lady friend gonna have some eggs soon? Does he know something you dont? I dont know. I know they can be very protective which might possibly put your ducks in danger if together. Back in the 80s I had a goose but no gander, she had eggs and she was vicous. She was with those eggs day and night and eventually she came up missing. Suppose something killed and ate her. First and last of having geese.

Eddie, the female has started laying eggs. She has probably laid a dozen or so thus far. I keep taking them. A neighbor takes them and hatches/sells them, as she does with my duck eggs. I don't have any use for them. She doesn't sit on them. She is nice. No issues with her.

The ducks run in a fenced area with the 2 geese. The area is about 200 ft square. At night they are housed separate in huts. Ducks go in at dusk. Geese take some sweet talking, she will go in and Rusty will fight you every step of the way. Like a snapping turtle crossed with a giant hissing snake when you go to shut the door.

I am not ready to give up on him yet. There is good in him.
