Thanks to all for the well wishes on our house... BUT we are withdrawing our offer on the house... basement was flooding during inspection this morning and there are no heat vents on the second floor... and the condition of the house was pretty rough, too much to take on at our age... moving down the list, I'm sure we'll find something perfect (and all our other choices have more land.. yay!) have about 8 or 9 to look at, so odds are good. Disappointed but not discouraged

Hi everyone!

Sorry it's been awhile since I have posted on here. I've been so busy with the pregnancy and getting the cats ready for the cat show this Sunday. It's pretty crazy around here right now. Also I lost all my quail.

I moved them into a hutch outside because the weather was so nice. Well we got that big 2-3 day snow/rain/thunder storm and even with the covered hutch the snow got in and buried them over night. I felt so terrible but I was home alone with my daughter because my husband works nights and there was no way I could get out there to try to dig them out or bring them inside. All of our back doors and the gate to the yard were completely snowed shut. Not fun. I think I needed a break for awhile anyway.

Also I'm so mad! I think my new little Bengal kitten knocked up my female Siamese. I always get my male cats fixed right away but the vet said I had to wait till the Bengal was 6 months before I could have him neutered. They told me I wouldn't have to worry about him being sexually active till about 6-8 months, so I pre-paid and had him set up to get fixed on the April 8th. Well the other day I saw him mounting my show siamese. So not happy! I'm sure the kittens will be beautiful but I'm not a fan of bringing more mutts into this world. I might talk to the vet about aborting her pregnancy if she is pregnant but I'm not sure if I could actually do it. I'm really anti-killing anything, even unborn kittens, so I guess I will see what happens. I might try asking some of the people I know at the cat show if they would want a kitten.

Final tally on the chicks currently are:

8 Lavenders
4 Blacks (split lavs)
2 Lavenders didn't make it (1 cull, 1 died after pipping)
6 eggs haven't pipped

1 early quitter
2 blood rings
2 clears

Not bad at all for shipped eggs and a 106 temp spike, I'd say.

VERY happy with the hatch.

Plans for setting in a week:
2 dozen Iowa Blues (shipped)
1 dozen blue/splash Ameraucanas carrying the silkie gene
1-2 dozen F1 olive eggers (Am x Marans)
1-2 dozen B/B/S Cuckoo +/- silver/gold Marans (darkest of the eggs)

On the dog, if he makes it through the first 5-7 days, he's got a good chance. If it's going to fall apart, day 3-4 is the day typically. If he hasn't shown peritonitis worsening over the first week, he's likely cleared the infection. Then it's just monitoring for problems due to the location of the problem, outflow issues from the stomach, potential for stricture of the area, etc.

an ordinance question: i asked whoever answers the Sauk City emails, and she said that no, i could not have chickens, but i'm hoping it was an issue of interpretation. And if the fine is reasonable and the neighbors are alright with it, would it really matter? the section in question is worded kinda dumb:

No person shall bring into, keep or maintain in the Village any bees, wasps, hornets, poisonous snakes, horses, mules, ponies, donkeys, cattle, swine, goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits (more than four), or any animal being raised for furbearing purposes or other wild animals unless otherwise permitted elsewhere in this Code. The prohibitions herein do not apply where the creatures are in the care, custody or control of a veterinarian for treatment; agricultural fairs, shows or projects of the 4-H Clubs, not including the raising of said animal; a display for judging purposes; an itinerant or transient carnival, circus or other like show; dog or cat shows or trials; or public or private educational institutions. The prohibitions herein also do not apply to the keeping or maintaining of farm animals in areas zoned for agricultural purposes by the Village Board. For purposes of this subsection, the term "swine" shall not include any miniature pigs of either sex weighing less than 80 pounds which are intended for and kept as domestic pets.

so, four, or none?
