Hello my fellow Wisconsinites. I have a question reagarding my pullets. When could I mov them to an unheated coop? I know the gneral rule is anytime after they feather out. My girls (three tetra tints, three golden comets) are now five weeks old and no longer fuzzy butts. However, they all still have bald spots in areas like under their wings, a few other spots that are visible when the dust/ fluff up. I know this week will still be too cold. but will nights in the 40/50 range be too cool for six/seven week old chicks?

Well, Rose came back! Some how she snuck out of the fenced side and into the neighbors 50 or so small pines! I think she must have gotten out when I was bringing the feed in.

Good Morning everyone,

seeing all these chicks are getting me excited for mine. I have a few questions again. My brooder is a 50 gallon rubbermaid containter, it is 3'6" by 1"6". I am planning on getting 8 from Dr Ha Ha. Any clue how long they will be able to stay in there. I thought for the first week I would use towels and after that wood pellets.

I insulated the coop yesterday, I just need to panel and paint the interior. Hoping this weekend, then the paint should have plenty of time to off gas.

Have a great day

David

Very Good Morning Everyone! ontonoh with 8 chicks in there they should be good for at least 3 weeks. You'll know because it'll get real crowded in there.

By then your coop will be done and you can move them in there, the weather should be warm enough by then. If not you could hang a heat lamp in a corner. I'm excited too! One more day till candleing.

Cind glad you found Rose! fm he did it again after L got home only this time he stood on my leg and crowed a half a dozen times. Told L that she's going to have to get a pic of him.

The last couple of days Brownie my/our favorite hen has been under the weather. I checked her out and can't find anything wrong with her. She spent the day before yesterday in the coop nestled down in the bedding then yesterday she was out and about eating and drinking and running around the yard. IDK. Bad bug maybe. Sf Good luck on your hatch! Jim glad to hear your feeling better! It sounds like the wheels are almost turning.

Oh TO it makes hurt just reading that!

Glad to hear you got the kids out of the way in time. That could have been bad! Bigz good luck on your hunt! Was going to post last night to tell you to enjoy it but knew you would. Hope you sprayed up pulled 2 ticks off of Bob last. Knew they would be out after that rain. Yup there's nothing like a man and his Roo as you know. Think it's a male bonding thing. Think besides Peatwo's lineage that he's the suboardinate roo and needs special attention. I'm willing to give it to him.

S"J" very cute chicks! Glad to hear you survived the storm! kristip that sounds like a job for younger people, can't imagine chasing after kids anymore. raim good job on recognizing the scam! So many don't. Well the water has receded quite remarkably. The county dug up the intersection last fall to install a culvert only to find that there was one already there. I found out that they only added new ends on it and apperantley didn't flush it out.

As soon as there was enough water pressure behind it, it started to flow. Still have water in the yard but the river is gone. Now more rain predicted

That hide should be on top of the chair for me.

Better get moving, enjoy the sun while it lasts! Bet Bigz enjoyed the sunrise!

Do they still hang out under the light? We usually watch and see where they sleep. If you still have a light on them you could try taking it away or raising it and see what type of reaction you get. Another thought would be to put a thermometer in the coop and see how chilly it gets at night. We just moved some 3 month olds out to our unheated coop this past weekend and they are doing well. Hope this helps.

good morning all., slept with the bedroom window wide open for the first time last night.. felt great to breathe that fresh air.

One turkey due to hatch today.. no pips yet.

I am going to finish putting the last few fingers into the plucker and then mount the wheels today..

Annie took inventory of the roosters this morning.. hint, hint..

Anybody need a rooster? 3 barred rocks, 2 leghorns, 1 Rhode Island red, 3 I think are Wyandottes, 1 white rock (not much to look at), and a couple of mutts.. all are only a year old,...

I have 1 show quality barred rock that I am using for breeding for a few more weeks, then I am selling him with his small flock of 6 hens..

I'll try craigs list again, see if I get bumped off again.. Some people have nothing better to do than harrass other people..

I had that same scam tried on me 2 years ago when I was selling a chicken plucker.. beware of American Express checks, also..

Good morning! My legs are not so bad...of course I cant cross them under my computer like I usually do and cooking might be challenging standing all that time....oh yeah, and the dog walk; I guess she wont be working up too much of a pant today!

Spotstealer--I have my babies in the basement, it is 55 or so down there and I just have a 100W light for them. If they get chilly they go underneath it and warm up. THe funny thing is that I also have some juvies down with them and they go under the light and spread their wings like they are sunbathing! It is very funny to watch.

I hope your plucker works good Jim...and shame on you for tempting me with more roos! You know I love them so much, I just wish they did something else (besides what they do) To make them more than eye candy!

I could just see you DrH with that roo on your leg...there is a crowing contest going on right now...why dont you have L get a pic and enter? I bet you would win
wink.png

Gotta start my day...you all have a fantastic one! Terri O
