Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good PM, having double vision problems tonight so not going to type much..when my eyes get tired, they each decide to do it's own focusing,, irritating for sure..

Ski, glad you have time to check in now.. maybe this will help the long boring winter pass faster for you..

BEDTIME at JIM & ANN'S

the first two pics are in the lean to.. that row of guineas are the old ones who roost above the brooder pen..

the others are on three roosts along the North wall.. they are the young guineas, pullets and three baby peafowl..

the older chickens and a couple of turkeys on the roost in the main coop.

the "floor dwillers" in the main coop.. that is old Tom in the foreground.. the hen is not his girl friend.. she just happened to be walking by..

that big gander on the right and his mate laid an egg today.. Annie says she is going to blow it out and make tree ornaments.. we have too many geese already..

I talked to UnkaDan today.. he is fine.. his puter is down.. notice the single " t" in puter.. not putter..

nice score on the venzun Ski.. my bro frought me another box of assorted vaccuum wrapped venzun this week.. love that meat,, I was going to say can't beat that meat, but I won't.........

I see that a lot of you are getting snow!!!!

Tomski, good to have you back!

Went to a Christmas party for work...bleh!

Off to bed, we're going house hunting tomorrow. 4 houses in WI (Burlington, Spring Grove, Caledonia, and Brighton) and 4 in IL (Zion)

Good luck Chickenscratch! Get out of IL if you can! The taxes will get you! I just about died when we went down there last weekend and discovered the tolls for cars are up to $2.80!!!!!!!!!!!

What are you looking for? Tons of houses that are abandoned around here, reasonable prices. Are you looking by chance at forclosures?

Ready to sneak outside and close the run door. OOOPS!

Some of you saw this on Facebook. The 3 yr old had a four hour evaluation with WEAP today (Wisconsin Early Autism Project). They diagnosed Pickle with autism, in the severe category. What else can I say to try to convey how sad I am?

On the chicken front... I discovered I have two more roosters. Crap! I have 6 roosters, not including the chicks growing out. I don't know how many of the 14 chicks are Roos right now.

I like the Walking Dead show. When I get to watch it..........

H&R, congrats on your parents anni! Today is my dad's birthday. He would be 78.

I really hate to say it, Bl4, but I can kinda understand where the neighbors are coming from. If your friends dog got loose, it could do so again at any time and kill more birds. And if the one they lost was a good breeder of quality stock, they could be losing out temporarily of some extra $$$$. Or they could just be a bunch of pricks.

Long time, no see, Tom!

Ghost! Yes, it has been far too long since Deb has checked in. Terri, you had her number way back when, didn't you?

Sorry to hear your kitty is having issues again, Bigz. A few of mine aren't doing so well either. And I wish I had your vet bill compared to mine lately.

Good luck on the house hunt, CS.

Bigfam, so sorry to hear about Pickle.

Hopefully the fox got some of the roos? So does that mean you don't want a pair of male & female lav chicks? I have a pair with your name on them. Come to think of it, I have a black orp with your name..............She can be a snot too.

We're still getting about 8 eggs a day down here (down from 11-12). I have a heat lamp running in the coop but at present only 5 hens and occassionally the seabright roo are roosting in there. The rest are sleeping out in the carport. It must not be cold enough yet. To whomever had the cochins, years ago I got a pair of 2 year old banties. The hen laid only one egg the entire time I had her, but she lived to be almost 10. I still have the roo and he is the absolute best surrogate dad ever! He has been raising my chicks for years now. And it is just the sweetest thing to watch.

Be safe out there, everyone. It sounds like we're in for some nasty weather this weekend. After chicken chores, DH & I will be spending our time snuggling on the couch with Ramses. And boy could I use it after the week we've had! Sweet dreams, all! And thanks again for all the thoughts & hugs!

Nice to have a freezer full of good meat! That's cool about your stove trade! I think you got a good deal!

BigZ.... sorry to hear you have a sick critter too.

Jim... I think that hen in the last pic is a bit confused

Looks like she's likin' Tom though!

Bf4m.... Wow, that news is kinda hard to take, even when you know it may coming. Sounds like you'll get lots of help though.

Looks like the snow (at least this round) may miss us. At most we'll get 1/2" but I don't even see that coming. I really don't want snow, but since young son works at a ski hill.... guess we better get some soon. They plan on opening the 9th!

Geeze.... I'm so tired right now! Sure as shootin' by the time I can crawl into bed.... I wont be able to sleep!

Hate that!
Guess I'm done.... night All!

I have no idea how some of you can be up this early..... and like it.

CC I am thinking this is just your typical barnyard mix sort of thing, they are just pampered chickens. And I told my friend she is lucky her dog came home at all; if he does it again he probably will not. I think the neighbors are just being a little snotty since she did ask them what they wanted for the cost of the bird and they did not give her an amount, just told her to get rid of the dog (unrealistic as these people getting rid of their chickens).

BigFam, I am so sorry to hear about Pickle.

A challenge you are capable of taking on, but still a shock.

We are going to get our Christmas tree this afternoon. I wanted to get it before it had snow all over it (way too messy). So somehow we are going to squeeze that in before we head out with the in-laws!

Ok, gotta fly.... enjoy the day!

Dogs and chickens do not mix. The neighbor next to me does not warn for predators. he shoots them all. Had a baby coon out by the coop last night when I went to lock up, poor thing did not have a chance with the two dogs along for the close up. Hopefully its siblings up in the tree seen it and make a decision not to attempt to climb the fence. No prisoners taken here either.
They are pets outside my fence, inside, they are predators no matter what it is.

I have never shot a dog in my yard, but I would not hesitate if I caught one in my coop. Those people are lucky they still have their dog. They don't need to get rid of the dog, they need a fence. They also need to replace that chicken. Will do them good to do some research and find out what type of bird they lost, and pay for an adult one to be shipped for a replacement. Now that dog knows where the fun is at, that dog will be back. Perhaps the replacement cost will help the dog owner make a decision about dog containment.

I would be heartbroken if someone shot my dog, she is horrible about getting out and that is my fault. She is a West Highlander and they will chase a rat, mice, rabbits, coons, possums, and any other type of rodent, any where. She would never kill one of my chickens, but, I have no idea if she would kill someone else's. She thinks these chickens here are her chickens and is very protective of them. I never spent the time I needed with border rules. I would feel bad because I am neglectful in her training, I am responsible for her loss if it occurs. She also crosses the highway. If she gets hit by a car, that is also my fault.

I am so looking forward for TerriO to come pick up these Cornish. They are eating up a storm and are so food aggressive it is hard for me to feed them with out getting hit by flying birds all over my legs.
Good luck with them Terri!!
