Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Catching a quick bite for lunch and scanning the forum. Actually amazing to have a couple minutes to eat lunch. :) Yesterday I didn't eat anything until 8pm, which is more typical of a workday. LOL

Hubby actually stopped by and dropped off a sandwich for me at work and brought Tye Tye in to say hi to mommy,

. Actually remembered to bring a lunch today, but we won't tell him that. Just say, "Thank you, honey."

Added a nice boost to the day.

Loving this break in the weather so far. Can collect eggs without them being frozen during the week. Next wave of chicks in the hatcher, looking forward to more chicks later this week.

So far the Muscovy eggs appear to be doing well. Little more hard to see now that the blood supply is taking up half the egg. Really hope they do well. Will be quite disappointing after all this clucking and futzing if the peter out on me. So far, so good, though.

Would anyone close to me be interested in going together on an order of chicks from Sand Hill Preservation??

There are a couple breeds that I'm having a hard time finding eggs/chicks for and would like to place and order with them. However I don't really need to order 25 chicks for myself, 10 or so I can handle. I know I could just bump up the order and sell the extras but I'd rather not have the hassle.

So if anyone would be interested please let me know soon!

Thanks!

Where do you live CasieD? I may be interested.
Does anyone know where to get mandarin ducks right now? I have a friend looking.
My son got his pinky slammed in the hinge part of our bathroom door last night. That was dramatic.
Getting pumped up for my drive to Iowa on Saturday!!!!! Hopefully this little call drake lives up to my expectations.

I'm west of Wausau, right off of Hwy 29.

Made it in to the Valley today and managed to clean up that SW tank! It was looking pretty gunky.... while I was cleaning the tank, I noticed movement in the Microcosim jars (the students go to one of the local nature preserves, take a scoop out of the water (plus the bottom and everything else) and pot it into a jar to observe for the semester). It was a tadpole! So of course I rescued him and put him in the tank with the goldfish. Tossed a few of the surviving snails in there too.

Made spaghetti and meatballs tonight. Used Alton Brown's recipe for the meatballs, he sneaks spinach into them so they get a little boost in the healthy department.

Since I have so many animals that are geriatric, I finally scheduled a Vet visit; for all 5 of them.

That is going to be a fun trip..... and then of course there is the bill at the end...... but it is something that has to be done. The three cats are 15 and the one is getting pretty skinny so all three will have bloodwork done. Trixie is 12 and is looking a little thin herself so I want them to run bloodwork on her too. I still feel guilty about Squirrel so I would rather have them all turn out to be just fine then wait and have a tragic outcome. Now I just need to find carriers for all the cats..................

Back to the grind tomorrow! I need to get going and start walking again! I have gained way too much over the Holidays and need to start preparing for this summer! It would be GREAT if it stayed warm like this...... and I see they are saying rain is in our future?????

Checking in and I won't be getting to all of the posts that I've missed :(

Things are good here. I am still sick....it was a sinus infection that has gone on since mid-December. I went into the doctor because my throat felt like it was swelling up. He took me off of the anti-biotics. The last time I went off of them the pain came back within 48 hours. Here's to hoping that the infection is finally gone!

The chicken coop stinks! Something about the freeze and thaw process has created an foul odor

. Any ideas? I'm thinking that I should put more pine shavings in.

I hope everyone is well.

Evening All....nothing new here today, sure was dandy outside today.

Hope you can find someone to help you fill your order with sand hill casie. I would of helped out, but they are already sold out of Buckeyes for 2013. That is the breed I would of ordered. I'll just hatch some more of my own stock I guess. I wonder why they don't breed lt brahmas anymore?

Went to the store for stuff to make some baileys...dang, forgot the whipping cream....I'll try again tomorrow. We have one of those waring pro bar blenders that we use for strawberry daiquiris, so it should whip the eggs up real goody. I can almost taste the baileys.

I could lose a few lbs to bl4....maybe Jim can go back on his diet and lose enough for all 3 of us. I love to eat, and it really goes to fat fast when you get over the hill.

Good evening--CS your "fowl" odor is probably just the deep litter method "working." As soon as it starts to get a little warm the bacteria start going again and create a bit of a stench! I would get some stall dry and sprinkle it in there to dry the base some and then top off with more litter. I did notice that my meaties were starting to smell a little bit too--that is what I am planning for tomorrow. My coop seems to be fine with it's 3' deep litter system!

Pretty soon I am going to have to clean it out though...I wont be able to stand up in there in another year...

So Carol did come out today (brought me 3 call ducks) and we went riding at Peggy's place. It was FUN! The sun was pretty nice and the wind a bit chilly. We had fun just the same! Carol took home that little Turken pullet that I posted here a month or so ago. SHe says that it is a Jaerhon Turken. Entirely possible, I had her hens here for a while last year. We will see what comes of it...

OK--I am very tired and I think I shall head upstairs and read my book for a while.
Have a good one--TerriOwithlotstodotomorrow
