DrH....Sounds like Toby is a little hellion! Are you sure Kissy isn't doing he share and blaming it on Toby? Maybe Tazz is setting him up!

CS.... hope you feel better soon!

Jim... Awww, sorry about your peahen. Hate it when they just die

I did rework the turkey pen and gave them about 8 more sq,ft. They have a nice plastic wrap around about 85% of the pen and the open area is south so they should be out of the coldest winds now. The "door" is a pallet on the south side so that won't even get direct wind. Still need to rework the "roof" but I need help with that... I'm too short! Go figure

OK... time to hit the hay.... Neil's case worker is coming for the 6 mo. check in.

Hey JJ, the goldfish is 2" long, the tadpole is 2 1/2". I am pretty sure the goldfish has more to fear from the tadpole than the other way around. I have had tadpoles before, I know the drill.

I hate sinus infections.... and I think this screwy weather has been causing issues. While working yesterday I kept feeling motion when I was not moving. Took a decongestant and that seemed to help a little....

Anyone have any tips or pointers on taking long RV trips with teens?

Trying to plan a vacation......

I better get moving here. I have a 40 min drive to get over with.

good eve.,

imagine that,, a fowl odor coming out of a chicken coop.. to keep chickens from smelling,
cut off their noses..

CasieD, what kind of chickens are you going to order ? I don't really NEED any chicks, but maybe I can help you out.. we live only a few miles apart, ya know.. If You can order a mixed bag, then I could tell you what I would take..? I would consider some Cornish X's..

One of the young peahens died today.. IDK what happened.. just came up looking dosey, and a while later it was dead.. and so the cycle of life goes..

Annie collected 38 eggs today.. but she thinks some of them were from yesterday..

Ok caught up again............ I would be wondering what you plan to order myself CasieD if ya are getting BCM, or wellies, or even maybe a couple more SLW, let me know and I'm sure we all can put in a few chicks if you can mix them, I have seen a few places that wanted you to order only 1 breed at 25 chicks......... per order......... that is crazy too.... and besides straight run of 25 will result in probably 15 roosters anyway......... so order big chickens that can be butchered early.......... LOL at least you'll have chicken in the freezer.

Jim & Kim
If you guys are interested in ordering, Sandhill is one where you can order a couple of this and a few of that, just so it adds up to the 25 minimum. Shipping to WI is only $10 for an order of 25 too since they are in Iowa. And these guys don't drop ship, they raise all their own birds, not someone else who they sell for. I'm looking to order some Penendeseca and BW Marans, but you could add anything to the order you wanted. Take a look at their online catalog. They have large breeds, bantams, geese, ducks and turkeys. Many assortments too. They don't have online ordering so I'll have to write up a paper order and mail in a check to get the order in and on their list. The sooner the better as some more scarce breeds have already sold out. I'd post the link here but don't think BYC likes that. So just look up sand hill preservation on good old google and take a look at their poultry catalog.

Added: They do only sell straight run though so yeah you will have to deal with the roo situation. For me that's what I'm looking for anyway, I need some boyfriends for the hens I have! lol

Jim - they don't have the typical cornishX's but do have buff cornish and shamo.

Kim - they do have BCM (after 4/16/13) and Welsummers.

Good Morning Everyone! Warm out but the trees are dancing. I see below 0 about this time next week. Brr. Going to add the last of the straw to the coop before it hits. Have to call to see if my supplier used the last of what he had. Hope not. Agree with ya Jim chips make an excelent base. Sorry to hear about your pea hen! Seems a lot are getting the itch already, always starts with the NYD hatches. Cindy your only short on one end. Yup TTT fits him. They both had a live mouse cornered under a night stand last night. I moved it Kissy went after it and Toby was still looking under the stand.

She just about tore apart the book case where it went to. They all got me up at 4:45 this morning with their hunting, no dead mouse.... yet. Taking L for her post op check up today think they'll tell one more week off. Better get chores done.

that is a big tadpole! Maybe even a salamander tadpole. Coooooool

I learned how much goldfish love tadpoles the hard way when I was 7. Once I witnessed the circle of life I was more interested in feeding the fish than raising the frogs.

We had the healthiest goldfish on the block.

good a.m.
all cuppa'd up.. will be going out to feed the birds shortly.. as in time,, not stature, Cind..

I checked out sand hill preservation.. they are not bashful about their prices, eh?
there are not many birds that one can order less than 25 of ..

the only birds that I saw that I would be interested in were the Buff Orpingtons.. but I have a few of them,, so I can't see spending $60.oo on 15 more..
if I need more, I can hatch some myself..

so I will pass on splitting an order Cassie..

I might just find some Cornish X somewhere else..

daylight is burning, better get out and do something..

The way their listing are can be a bit confusing but I read this on their information page:

The number in parentheses "( )" after the price of the poultry indicates the maximum number of day olds available at one hatch. You can order as few as one of a particular breed.

I don't think their price is too out of line. Buff orps are $4 and shipping on their minimum order of 25 chicks is $10 making it $4.40 a piece. At Purely Poultry a Buff chick is $2.80 but their shipping is $20 on a minimum order of 15 chicks making it $4.13 each. So not too big of a difference really. PP only has one of the breeds I'm looking for and their chick price is $11.83/ea where they are $7.00/ea at Sand Hill. I guess it just depends on what breed you're looking for.

I'll keep working on it, might have someone DH works with interested in adding on to the order as well.

I was just out by the chickens and boy is it windy here! Nice and sunny with 32° but that wind is ripping here at around 20 mph. Hope that calms down sometime today.

I am back.. windy here as well.. it looks warmer out than it really is..

I must have read the SHP wrong.. usually the number indicates the minimum order ..
anyhow, if the other folks want the chickens, I will stand by.. If you need to pick up a few to make the 25, then let me know.. I don't care if I get pullets or roosters, either or both..

this is the pied peahen she is about 4 yrs old. the next peahen is going into her second year. she is an India Blue, we hatched her last year.. she should lay eggs this year..

.
these two are the "babies".. hatched this past summer.. I think they are both hens..

as per usual , you can click on each picture to make them larger..
