Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning all! Woke up in a timely fashion this AM and am heading downstairs(bedding in my arms) planning on cleaning my house a bit ALONE; and what do I see coming up the walk??? You guessed it THE FAM! Well, part of it at least. Turns out that DD20 developed a dry socket from her wisdom teeth being extracted so DH and her BF took her to the dentist in Madison then just headed home! Sheesh...there goes my last "peaceful" day! Oh well, at least I dont have to clean the house now!

Maybe I will take the opportunity and go over to MXMs and help her fix her coop! Her DD asked if I was coming over again today...we had such fun. (and she does miss all of you! I just wish she would pop on more often.)

The bird that is eating cake with up is Tommy. You have not met him yet Deli! He is a partridge bantam cochin that I got from a lawyer in Chicago. (true story--I will tell it to you sometime) He lives in a dog cage under my fishtank in the living room and presently is teaching my parrot to crow! Incidentally, a chicken is a much better pet than a parrot, in case any of you were wondering.

Well I thought it was supposed to be WARMER today...it is still 20 on my porch. I wanted to hang the sheets out and not have them freeze. DD20 is now heading to get her hair permed and her BF says he's not helping me...he is kidding I hope.

Guess I will be heading out then. Much to do, much to do! TerriOseeingtheBFgethisbookoutmaybehewasntkidding?

A bright and brisk good late morning to you all.

Windy, but otherwise fairly pleasant outside. Just got done with the chickie chores. NPIP inspector out today, nice gal, should have my certification soon.

Chicks in the brooder are completely loving their fermented chick mash. Added some broccoli to it today, too. Actually pretty amazing the reduction in smell and mess. They make smaller, drier poops, drink a lot less water since the feed is wet, and are like a pack of raptors when I go to feed them. LOL at the smallest chick currently with a chunk of broccoli doing the "I've got a worm" dance and run. Chicken football commencing.

DH off to Janesville with DS2, DS3 is stuck to the computer, guess it's time to break out the construction paper and scissors. :)

good morning,,
it is OK to candle your very first batch of eggs.. your rate will prolly go down.. but candle anyway,, get it out of your system and then do it sparingly in the future.. candling is way over rated.. it is for the inquisitive..

If you smell a bad egg, it does not have to explode to contaminate the other eggs.. get it out as soon as you can, or immediately,, whichever comes first..

even if you pick up your hatching eggs.. give them a day or two of rest before starting to turn them.... and for those two days of rest, I do not flip them either.. rest means rest..
this is just my opinion, so you can do what you read on other places on byc if you choose..

time to feed the throngs..

Fish Fry Friday To Everyone Nice! Good answer about the bestest Doc. I think Jim must be sick calling us second best....you know that just aint right with us being all rightous and stuff. I wonder if frenchie dumped me?

Good luck bigfam....just show them your cc permit and you are good to go for a background check.

If you ever buy snacks at kwik trip...don't buy their urge taco chips....you'll eat the whole bag in one sitting..dang they are goody.

Tried a 12 pack of Bud Black Crown....not bad, and 6% is a +1 too.

Shrimp stir fry tonight...gonna skip the ho-made fries seeing I ate a whole bag of taco chips today.

Was thinking maybe I'd locate a local auction and take DS2 to see it, but darned if I can find a darn thing googling.

How does one locate the local livestock auctions?

HURLEY~ call the nearest feed mill/store. they always have the latest scoop on such things usually in the form of a bulletin board.

Hi all,
I had about an inch of new snow.. I figured I would do a strip down the driveway and back and then clean up just where Annie parks her car.. and that's all I did.. I had to quit because I was leaving a vapor trail.. that v-belt that I was sort of worried about because it was so close to the lower radiator hose ?? well it was.. cut a hole right through it.. I stopped before Ollie overheated.
temp was only 200F..

I back Ollie into the garage and proceded to undress him.. yup, had to take off the grill, hood and top cover..just to get at the radiator hoses..

Now I am going to buy a 1 inch shorter v'belt to give me more clearance at the radiator hose.. and I have to come up with a lower radiator hose, too..

Ode ta sh!t, eh?

Dan, Brenda finally figured out how to send that picture to me..

the goose who was nesting in the garage under the planer was off her nest this morning.. and all 3 of her eggs are gone.. No varmint tracks in the fresh snow.. I am now suspecting rats .. I had a hunch we had one or two of them hanging around.. time to make a carnival ride, I think..

It was quite balmy outside this afternoon..

I had to laugh at one of our former neighbor girls.. she lives in Berkly Cali.. she sent a picture of frost on her car.. did not get a lot of sympathy from the Wisconsin friends on face book..

My Maran, Cochin, Speckeled Susex, and Welsummer eggs arrived this morning..sitting and waiting to get to temp and air cells to attach. He sent so many extra that, between theses and the silkie eggs I am at almost 3 dozen eggs.
I am a bit worried..they are so cold. I hope they did not freeze. It is taking a long time for them to feel like a normal egg.
