Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Delisha... I hatched out a partridge, a blue partridge, a splash or paint (I can't remember the difference) a white smoke/silver, and a white. A buff didn't make it and another got crook neck and how to be culled. I have 2 Roos and 3 pullets

I see the children are at it again..... FRENCHIE and TO are the favorites! Besides, they have been here longer...

Welcome Chad! You will have to join us for our chickenbash at the end of May! Meet the rest of the loonies....

It is amazing how quickly a person heals. My DS has almost no swelling now and all the road rash is just big red marks.

BigFam, to get the job I hope you were just who you are. They would be foolish to not hire you, you can fit in anywhere.

Nothing much to report here. Not liking the cold one bit, or the cold that is on the way here....... maybe I should make myself one of Jim's 'rootbeers'......

Thank you...how was your air cells? I can't find one in most of these eggs. They are so tiny. I am used to handling so much larger eggs. It is amazing a chick can hatch out of these.

Well, I set them no matter what. But I have learned to let them sit longer before incubating, and not having the egg turner on the first few days. Supposedly it can heal a funky air cell. I can't tell you how many eggs I hatched last year, so I can't specifically remember what theirs look like...

Ahhh, at least we didnt have to say it eh Frenchie? LOL!
I had a nice day today with MXM. We went to Madison and fooled around at Target until she exclaimed, "OMG--DD gets off the bus in half an hour!" And I still had to get into MIchael's to pick up my framed project! We made it home in plenty of time however...the house smelled so good cause we put dinner in the CP before we left. We did have to have coffee and cupcakes here first though...and so did Tommy. (the spokeschicken for the cheesehead thread, all you new guys!)

(and yes, the cupcakes were GF!)
I have been having some double yolkers lately too...I am wondering if they do that when they are beginning to lay again after winter? Nice eggs BTW Cassie? (sheesh, I sure wish I had a memory!) ANyhow, strange that your blue Andalusian lays an offwhite egg. I assumed that the egg in the center of your plate was white? Mine lay a long oval egg that is bright white. Weird.
ANyhow, I took this pic of my eggs the other day. The egg in the middle of the frying pan is a muskovy duck egg.

The rest are chicken eggs! They all had double yolks! This is from one day of collection too! I have never had this many in one day before. I guess either my hens are getting old or I just never noticed it before. It is odd for sure. Today we brought the eggs in and the dam^ cat knocked the bucket right off the counter so the chickens got them right back...There were a few more of these big ones but for the most part they are going back to normal size.
I have forgotten all the rest that I was going to say now...I guess I am too tired from shopping and eating over at MXM's place...the fam will be home tomorrow after the hockey game...I will say it has been a stress less week for the most part.
Carol, I hope you and DH are healthy again soon! BigFam--I hope you made a good impression today! Did you really say "crunchy" old codger? I have heard "crusty" but maybe I read it wrong? How is one "crunchy?" LOL! WAIT--dont answer that question...I really dont want to know the answer!
Getting punchy--goot night ans sweet dreams too! TerriOhearingthebedcallingeversosoftly

Wait a minute... what's an air cell?
I am DYING to candle my eggs and see if they worked. Maybe I could sneak a peek....
Maybe a dumb one, but can you candle an egg in the daylight or does it have to be dark?
Chickens are all doing fine. Can't remember who asked, but we use a heated plastic dog dish and a 16 galon heated bucket. We leave them outside, and they haven't froze yet. I love them, wish I would have done it sooner. Hated having to haul buckets of frozen water, unthaw it in the milk house, refill them and haul the 5gal pail back out to the coop.
The horse and goats are ticking me off though. Too smart! They kept pushing the gate which is a wooden picket until they broke one of the pickets. Now they keep getting out. They don't go far, only a like 20 yards away into the field. I go out there, and as soon as they see me they come running. I open the gate and they go right in. The goats look hilarious running with their little legs, but I think the mini looks beautiful when he comes running. I can't imagine how beautiful a regular horse must look. Maybe someday.
Hope everyone is feeling better. So far we have been fairly healthy
